Texas Sophomore ID Camp: Top Defenders

One of the first things that jumps out at me is how much effort a player puts in on the defensive end. The student athletes below displayed stellar defensive prowess at the showcase over the weekend.    Zakai is an aggressive, tenacious combo guard that is always involved on both ends of the floor. He takes risks on defense in a great way, more often than not racking up steals and extra possessions for his team without getting into foul trouble. He's a true two-way guard with how effective he is on the offensive end as well. His pullup jumper is solid as a rock, and he has the speed and vision to tangle up the toughest defenders on his way to the bucket.     Jake is a long, active forward that positively affects the game in so many different ways for his squad. He's always full effort on close-outs and his length allows him to tip, block, and alter shots with impressive consistency. He displays great sportsmanship on the floor and has the ability to finish through contact for extra opportunities at the line. His footwork is stellar and enables him to do great work in the post. He has great hands defensively and can rack up steals on opponents who aren't careful with the ball. He's not afraid to dive on the floor and sacrifice his body for loose balls if it means extra possessions and a higher probability of victory.     Raheem is a fast, gritty combo guard that displays incredible speed down the floor and a desire to win that's undeniable. He's seldom not the first down the court and he constantly has his head up determined to master the next objective for himself and his team. He's an impressive finisher at the rim and an excellent decision-maker in traffic. He's an absolute beast defensively and on the glass, regularly shutting down his assignments and gathering second-chance opportunities in abundance.     Jabralyn is incredibly physical in the paint and has the ability to frustrate his assignments on defense on another level. He reads passing lanes incredibly well and is causing constant disruption and general chaos for his opponents. He's a great communicator down the floor and he has excellent vision that allows him to quickly identify opportunities for himself and his teammates. I love the way he elevates on the glass - straight up, higher than everybody else, and with great hands to bring down the ball nearly every time.     Bennett is a strong, forceful forward that imposes his will on the game down low and denies opponents on defense with regularity. His length paired with his close-out effort allow him to alter and block shots consistently throughout his contests. He has solid footwork that he uses in the paint to position himself incredibly well for high-percentage opportunities at the rim. He's a pesky defender that aggravates and causes turnovers in the best ways.
