Team 1 Evaluation: Freshman Showcase Wisconsin

The gym was full of energy in Appleton on Saturday, with the annual Freshman Showcase taking place at the Champions' Center. Let's breakdown Team 1 as they competed at a high level.    Team 1's unofficial MVP, Tyi-zire is one of the key components of a very talented freshman class for the Novas of Milwaukee Academy of Science. Briley-Carter is a true two-way impact player that electrifies the game. The six-foot freshman has a quick first step, can drill threes off the bounce, has a tight handle and initiates transition offense well beyond his years. Briley- Carter uses his athleticism to finish over defenders, as well as soar for rebounds, and generate deflections. A strong candidate for a high ranking in the initial 2030 rankings, Tyi-zire is a player to absolutely monitor the next few years.     Ashley, who is attending Beaver Dam High School this fall, played well on Saturday contributing with intangibles to impact winning. Ashley is a gritty defender and rebounds well for his size, finding opportunities to secure o- boards. Maverick has a quick first step, which allows him to get downhill to get layups or find teammates on the perimeter.     McRae is attending New Berlin West High School, and is part of the 24:UP Program. In the games I was able to view him play, McRae had good vision on drives finding cutting teammates on dribble penetration. When he was not looking for teammates, McRae can finish through contact, as he converted a contested layup in early action. Liam is also a capable three point shooter, as he knocked down a deep catch and shoot triple in Appleton Saturday.     Schultz came a long way from Superior to compete Saturday morning, and he was impressive in his play in both 3 on 3, and in 5 on 5 action. The guard prospect was outstanding in 3 on 3 play, quickly getting to the basket, and accurately rejecting a ball screen to finish athletically at the rim. Schultz loves going baseline, and when he does, he has a high chance of scoring at the rim. In addition to his ability to attack the rack, Schultz has a smooth pull-up jumper finding the bottom of the net from the mid-range, and from a downtown. Schultz is a prospect to monitor as he develops and rounds out other parts of his game.     Gundrum was instrumental in transition in Appleton, Saturday afternoon. The six foot guard was speedy quick in the full court, and half court as he was able to convert and one finishes, a spin move finish, and an impressive coast to coast bucket. JJ competes with 24:UP on the club scene.     Stingle had some nice flashes of opportunistic offense. The wing from Wrightstown was able to knock down some shots from downtown, burying a deep corner three on a drive and kick in one of the games I was able to see him play. Stingle was able to impact the game on the glass as well as he pulled down an o-board, and finished it in the same motion.     Zuhlke was able to use his length to make an impact in the paint and on the glass. The six-foot-three prospect was able to impact the game by hustling on the glass and securing defensive rebounds. The best play Zuhlke had during the freshman showcase was when he rose up to grab a board, and finished through contact. Zuhlke will attend Fall River for his freshman campaign.     Norville, who is attending Kewaskum was able to impact 5 on 5 and 3 on 3 games with his size and length for his age. In the time I was able to evaluate, Cooper pulled down some rebounds on the offensive side of the ball and used his body to wall off offensive players. Norville had a nice transition pass- ahead to a teammate as well.
