On the weekend of September 25th-26th I was able to visit La Joya High School and ASC Avondale for the second annual Southwest Showdown. It contained plenty of teams from the west valley with solid talent across the board. I viewed multiple teams and games throughout both days and was able to put together 5 tournament teams of 6 players each. The teams are based off of the games and teams I saw. I was not able to view every team due to multiple games being played at once.

Cj Dominated throughout the entire event and was practically unstoppable. He seemed to be a level above everyone he matched up with. Cj would use his plus athleticism and elite handle to get by defenders with ease. Once getting to the middle he would use multiple moves to score. He could use a euro, spin or Veer step to score by the bucket. He would also draw contact and would get to the line at will. Cj has a nice stroke from the midrange and will use a high pick to get to his spots and rise up for an easy two. He is an elite rebounder for his position and will get physical with bigger players. Cj recently picked up an offer from UNLV.

Adrien was the biggest player in the entire event and dominated the paint. He moves fluently for his size, especially on the break. He can get out and run lanes for fastbreak dunks or lobs. He has a solid handle for his size and isn't afraid to push the ball off the rebound. He has great hands and will catch almost everything thrown at him. He will dunk it through contact or on unsuspecting defenders. He can extend his range from the midrange to the three and will shoot it if defenders give him space.

O'Mari has been a stock riser all summer and continues to show his improvement every time I see him play. He puts great pressure on the rim and will out physical most players in the paint. He is a strong finisher and will even posterize defenders every now and then. He has a solid shot and will hit the three off the catch. He can face up and take slower foot defenders on the bounce. Defensively he can send shots with his great timing and plus wing span.

Kaleb Continues to add and improve his game throughout the entire offseason. His shot looks better than ever and is playing with great confidence. He hit multiple threes off the catch and the dribble and got himself going. Kaleb has a solid handle and was able to get down hill bumping off defenders and finishing at the bucket. He was hitting the midrange at a solid clip off the pull up and face up. He rebounds well and will battle in the paint with anyone. I expect a great year from Kaleb and the Lobos.

Myking is a sharp shooting lead guard with some real serious range. He gets it done from beyond the arc and will punish defenders when they leave him open. He extended his range a few feet off the line and can get hot in a hurry. He has some shiftiness to his game and can get to the middle and hit a sweet floater in the lane. He is a very unselfish player and will get his teammates involved. He has some underrated vision and can tread the needle when needed. Myking will continue to make noise for the Knights.

Kueth showed he is capable of being a real wing scorer for the Scorpions. Kueth stepped up with 3 other starters out of the lineup and was a tremendous number 2 option all weekend long. He showed he ability to get buckets in the midrange and by the bucket. He would use a one dribble pull up to hit midrange jumpers constantly or take it all the way to the bucket with spin move finish. He had multiple and-1 finishes in the event and showed his relentless effort when by the rim. He was able to show his range and hit the three off the dribble and catch. He played stellar defense and will use his length to his advantage by poking the ball away from ball handlers. Kueth can have a breakout year for the Scorpions.
