Guards to know from the Freshman Showcase

Carmel</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Buckner made the trip down from Kansas and was one of the best players at the camp. Skilled and smooth guard, mixed getting buckets with setting up others. Shined in transition with no looks and as an unselfish facilitator. Good shooter, with the crafty ability to score off the bounce. On the smaller side but plays stronger and taller than his height and is a good athlete. Had one of the more exciting plays at the camp when he dropped an opponent during 3 on 3 play. And most importantly, he hit the open jumper. While he hit some jumpers, his form looked a bit inconsistent and funky. That's a potential area of improvement to watch going forward, which also could elevate his ceiling. He was active on the defensive end with deflections and steal. While also moving his feet and competing when cover on the ball. Has some sneaky springiness to his athleticism. Which indicates that when he's finished growing he could be an above the rim player. Lewis is a promising prospect that while raw at times, will be a very interesting name to keep tabs on in the Class of 2030. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='3759625' first='Carlos' last='Johnson'], 6'0 Guard, Putnam City North</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Johnson was one of the better two-way guards at the camp. Pesky on the ball, with a good mix of quickness and strength for his age. His energetic havoc causing led to him causing steals and other sloppy play. Good fundamentals as a scorer when hitting in the mid-range and from three. Hits the high school level with a very well rounded game which should be sharpened daily with battles against some of the best guards in Oklahoma.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2405189' first='Ayden' last='Birch'], 5'5 Guard, Heritage Hall</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A quick guard, Birch had some of the best handles at the camp. Very hard to keep out of the lane and had good moments of decision making to set up teammates. Can keep his dribble alive and buy extra seconds on drives, or two foot step and making the right pass. Had a few giant killer finishes with good arc and spin to score against taller players. Promising heart over height guard with a good skill base. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='3757580' first='Markaden' last='Roberson'], 5'10 Guard, Tulsa Memorial</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Roberson was one of the more consistent bucket getters at the event. It wasn't always flashly scoring, but through energy and court awareness he has the knack to be in the right place and right time. From running the floor hard in transition, to knocking down open jumpers.
