Doug's Dozen Fall Shootout: Sleeper Standouts to Watch For

Doug Jones put on an event for the city of Houston this weekend labeled Doug's Dozen Fall Shootout. Several of the top scholastic teams in Houston came together to compete on the campus of CE King high school for this one-day event. Several players caught my eye, but these prospects contributed not only points for their respective teams but also impacted the game in other statistical categories as well. Let's further examine their skillsets as we dive into what aspects of their play makes them stand out to me.    [player_tooltip player_id='2620700' first='Jeremiah' last='Okpamen'] came away with 14 points in the Elkins game this weekend against Beaumont Westbrook. Jeremiah has vocal leadership and energy operating from the point guard position and he displays elite court awareness and high IQ decision making. He doesn't take bad shots and is effective either creating his own shot off the dribble or being a catch and shoot player from the wing. His speed creates opportunities for empty lanes in transition, and he controls the pace of the game well to benefit his team at all times.     [player_tooltip player_id='3650357' first='Garrett' last='Mullins'] is a shooter that can easily catch fire in a hurry if left open by the defense. His consistency from three point range helps space the floor for the Eagles and he moves well without the ball in his hands, coming off screens and finding open spots on the perimeter. Garrett had a total of 13 points in the Barbers Hill loss to Morton Ranch in the Doug's Fall Shootout event. Mullins is quick on his feet on defense and this allows him to effectively play passing lanes as well.     Chasen Edwards came away with a stat line of 9 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists in the Crawford win over Cy Ridge Saturday morning. My first time getting to watch the 2028 guard was at the annual Rucker on Wood and he displayed that he has a deep bag of tricks he can use to score on the offensive end. He attacked the basket ferociously this game and he drew multiple fouls, getting himself to the free throw line. His hustle for loose balls is momentum changing, and he can hurt the defense from either combo guard slot. Edwards rebounds well as a guard and is impactful on defense as well with his lengthy wingspan and long strides.     Korde is an athletic wing for the Westfield Mustangs who finishes in the lane through contact and has solid mechanics on his jumper in the midrange. Smith has underrated speed during transition scenarios and is effectively crashing the glass for second chance putbacks on offense and clutch rebounds on defense. He can handle the ball well in the half court setting if needed and excels in the pick and roll game going to the basket. Look for him to find his way onto collegiate radars if he keeps up this level of play going into his senior season!
