DMV Hoop Madness: 2030 eye-catchers

DMV Hoop Madness brought teams from up and down the east coast to the Baltimore area for a loaded two-day slate of games. After taking in all of the action on Saturday, we came away impressed with a handful of young prospects from the class of 2030.    Gonzaga used the second half of its Saturday afternoon matchup with Boys Latin as a chance to get its reserves some extended run and no one seized the opportunity more than Foster. The freshman swingman played with controlled confidence throughout while showing a smooth offensive attack. He has a clean motion and evident touch as a shooter from the perimeter and also showed refined pace and ball skills while attacking closeouts. With a long and lanky frame that looks ripe for future growth, Foster is clearly one to monitor closely moving forward as a potential D1 prospect.     One of the more highly-touted freshmen in the DMV, Tomlinson joins a deep young core at Gonzaga but looks like he'll be the only rookie to earn a consistent spot in the varsity rotation. Matched up with another young team in Boys Latin, he was able to use his advanced size, strength, and athletic ability to consistently cause problems for the Lakers on both ends of the floor. Tomlinson isn't devoid of skill by any means but shows an advanced understanding for his age of how to leverage his physical tools to routinely create and exploit advantages. It's clear the swingman will be heard from early and often over the next four years and beyond.     There's started to be some buzz building around Cooper as of late and the freshman guard showed on Saturday that there's certainly good reason for the hype. He stands out right away with great size and length for a budding young lead guard. Cooper shows dynamic quickness and sudden burst as a ballhandler to blow by defenders with ease en route to his spots. He also uses his length and quickness to really heat up the ball on the defensive end. His two-way ability should give him a chance to crack the rotation right away and be on D1 radars sooner rather than later.     There's been a steady line of D1 lead guards to come through the ranks at Sidwell over the past decade and it looks like the Quakers shouldn't have to look far to replace current junior [player_tooltip player_id='2453417' first='Jadah' last='Washington'] when it comes time for him to graduate. Roberts should have no problem slotting right in as a starter when his time comes but for now should provide a consistent boost as a valued reserve. He has nice size for a guard his age with a strong frame that he puts to use both while working to his spots off the dribble and bothering opposing guards as a spirited on-ball defender. Roberts doesn't look like he'll be called on just yet as a primary scorer but should gain valuable experience within his role that will pay dividends over time.     Another freshman that looks ready to be an immediate factor in the Sidwell rotation, Larrañaga should slot right into a valuable role as a dynamic floor-spacer. He stepped right in off the bench with boundless confidence, displaying a smooth and refined stroke with zero hesitation when given any space on the perimeter. Larrañaga also looks to have some nice complementary skill as a ballhandler to go with ideal positional size, giving him a cleanly translatable skillset moving forward to go along with high-level bloodlines. It looks to be a matter of when, rather than if, Larrañaga inserts himself into the conversation among the best shooters in the DMV.
