Dade County Preview: Top Lead Guards

Dade County consistently produces college basketball talent, and the 2027 class is no different. We project more than 40 prospects from the county to eventually play at the college level, with talent spread across every position. We begin our breakdown of the senior class with a closer look at some of the top point guards in Dade County. A recent commit to Tennessee Tech, Orbe is a skilled scoring guard who can play either backcourt position. He is a consistent shot maker with range beyond the arc and can also create opportunities for teammates as a playmaker. Orbe has a good feel for the game, makes sound decisions with the basketball and brings the versatility to contribute both on and off the ball. Sarante came off the board last weekend with a commitment to Loyola (MD) after an impressive offseason with Miami Triple Threat. Poised for a big senior season at Miami Palmetto, he is a high IQ combo guard with good positional size and the versatility to play either backcourt spot. Sarante changes speeds effectively, can break down defenders off the dribble and finishes well in the paint. He is also an efficient perimeter shot maker, giving him the ability to score at multiple levels. Another member of Miami Triple Threat's talented backcourt, Middlebrooks is a ball handling guard with good positional size and high level athleticism. He has good speed and is at his best attacking the rim, where he can put pressure on defenses off the dribble and finish in the paint. Middlebrooks also makes an impact at the defensive end, using his athleticism and activity to be disruptive both on and off the ball. Smith will spend his senior season at Calusa Prep, bringing a combination of quickness, strength and athleticism to the backcourt. He consistently puts pressure on defenses off the dribble and is tough to keep out of the paint, where he can finish or create opportunities for teammates. Smith is also a capable open shot maker and has the versatility to impact the game as both a scorer and playmaker. His physical tools and activity translate to the defensive end as well. Alonso is a confident lead guard who brings a nice combination of scoring and playmaking ability to the backcourt. He operates effectively out of ball screens, reads the defense well and can either create his own offense or find open teammates when help arrives. Alonso is a dangerous perimeter shot maker with deep range and is comfortable knocking down jumpers both off the catch and off the dribble. He plays with good pace and poise and consistently makes sound decisions with the basketball.
