New readers: Use code Proia30

I traveled down to Henrico for the first event of the new season as public, private, and prep schools pulled up to a massive facility just outside of Richmond to compete over the weekend. Guards are the lifeblood of both college and professional hoops and there were plenty of standouts on display this weekend to dive into further detail. So without further ado, let's break down a few of the top guards from the showcase!

-Little is making me a believer as a PG prospect that has made some nice strides over this offseason to improve his game on both sides of the ball. Used as a movement shooter off the bench last season, Little steps into a much bigger role for the Cadets as a PG that is seeing the floor well and playing with good pace in ball screens to create for his teammates in the halfcourt. The most glaring improvement--however-- has been at the defensive end of the floor. Little is doing a much better job of navigating screens and sending his matchup to the sideline or keeping them out of the paint to disrupt offensive flow. If he can continue to develop into a nuisance at the POA while adding more explosiveness to his leaping ability and change of direction on drives to the rim-- he should be a big piece for the Cadets moving forward.

-Easter projects to be a pretty seamless plug n play option for SJC this season as an incoming freshman that should hit the ground running with the varsity group. Easter knocked down a pair of open 3s, used euro steps and spin moves to maneuver through the defense in transition, is a pretty active rebounder for his size/position group, and should give his team a ton of lineup versatility as they can feasibly run him at PG, SG, and SF. Love how effective he is without dominating the ball, doing a great job on his pre-catch reads to attack closeouts effectively as a young guard that processes plays well on the move.

-The oober explosive guard prospect will be doing a postgraduate year at Fork Union Military Academy and will give Coach Williams an explosive guard prospect to work with over the course of the next season. Dinges impacts the game well with his physicality and is at his best in transition as a guard that makes the right read in advantage situations. He showed a ton of speed traveling in both directions in the open floor, plays above the rim, and has a nice blend of positional size and tenacity to serve as a switchable defender for FUMA. If he can improve his handle to take advantage of explosive strides when attacking closeouts , he should be able to showcase his athleticism and add to his value as a slasher.

-Womack transfers into Petersburg and should serve as a pretty seamless addition to the program with a tenacious brand of two way basketball. Womack hits gaps in the defense effectively to jump passing lanes and create transition opportunities for a team that is particularly deadly on the fastbreak. Womack can guard multiple positions, play on or off the ball in transition, and utilizes his speed and size in the halfcourt to serve as an effective tasmanian devil help defender within Petersburg's system.

-Came away impressed with Banks' ability to put the ball in the basket in the halfcourt as a cat quick scoring PG. Banks showed great burst with the ball in his hands, was fast in the open floor, finishes and passes well with either hand, and generated a ton of paint touches for his team. The skill level began to show through in the 2H as he knocked down a wing 3 off the catch and splashed another behind a screen after he hit his matchup with a double crossover behind the back. Love how easily he is able to switch gears in the halfcourt both with his dribble and with his footworks to get to his spots to either distribute or score.
