Under the Radar: 2028 Guards who shined this summer

The 2028 class is one of the deepest classes we've seen in the 804 in a long time and it has been exciting to see the growth in these young prospects as they look to make a name for themselves moving forward. The 804 has a history of breeding talented guards and this class is a prime example of that.    [player_tooltip player_id='3554525' first='Danny' last='Mooney'] shouldn't be a new name for most, as he was one of the best guards in Richmond last year regardless of class. His size doesn't matter because every time he steps on the court, he makes a major impact. Danny is one of the top-scoring guards in the area and also has a knack for getting to his spots and scoring at an efficient rate. Danny had a monster summer with Rockit Sports on the Made Hoops circuit, and many College coaches are starting to take notice of his next-level potential. His interest has been from all different levels.     Roman has quietly been one of the biggest stock risers in Richmond in his class; he is a very high-volume scorer from all 3 levels and has a college-ready frame. Roman has strength and athleticism that you don't see in most guards his age. Roman is an efficient scorer and great defender. Roman played for VA Havoc 16U on the Under Armour circuit and was a big reason for their success this summer. Every time I've seen him play, I walk away more impressed with his ability to impact the game on both sides, not only for himself but for his team. He makes the right plays and right reads often, and he will be highly sought after by college coaches moving forward.     Justin is a high-IQ point guard who played for Rockit Sports Made Hoops Circuit team and Henrico High School. Justin is a very quick and shifty guard who uses his speed and athleticism to his advantage on both sides of the ball. Justin is a consistent shooter, and does a great job of getting 2 feet in the paint to create floater opportunities or easy buckets for his teammates. He has all the tools to be a very good point guard at the next level, and he's received a handful of early offers, which isn't a surprise because he just brings so much value to whatever team he's on. I have seen him play for years now, and I have enjoyed watching his growth each season. Justin will be key to the success of Henrico this season with his leadership abilities and playmaking abilities for himself and others around him.     Obi had a monster Junior season at Godwin High School, where he was one of the top guards in the region and top shooters. Obi recently transferred to St. Christopher's School and reclassified to the 2028 class. He played with [program_tooltip program_id='3424568' first='Team' last='Loaded Gold'] this summer and was the 6th man of their loaded group; he brought a spark that the team needed to be successful. Obi is another high-IQ and high-academic guard who does a great job of making those around him better. He is an efficient shooter and scorer who has the ability to get hot from deep at any given time, but what stands out most to me about his game is his playmaking abilities. Obi can play either guard position, which makes him very useful for his team. He will be a huge asset for St. Chris this year, and a prospect college coaches will take a closer look at.
