Prep Hoops Iowa Freshman Showcase: Team 1 Evaluations

Burnett could've found himself in a few other articles from the Showcase, as he was one of the standout performers that I saw. A lanky two-way guard who uses his length efficiently on both ends of the floor, he made a significant impact as both a defender and a playmaker throughout the afternoon. He does a great job playing with pace, doesn't get sped up against pressure, and makes good, quick decisions with the basketball in his hands. He's a creative passer with great vision, and he can score inside and out. When he's playing downhill, he does a really good job getting his defender on his hip and shielding the ball from the defense, allowing him to get all the way to the rim and finish through contact.     A tough lefty guard who contributes across the board, Degner shined in his willingness to compete on the glass on both ends of the floor from his perimeter spot. He's bouncy and doesn't shy away from contact. He showed some ability to play off the dribble and create plays for himself and his teammates, and flashed a really nice floater that he uses to finish over bigger defenders.     An eighth grader playing up, Hackney showed great composure against ball pressure, handling the ball well and seeing the floor at a high level. He plays with good pace and doesn't get sped up, no matter how aggressive the ball pressure was. He has long arms that he uses to his advantage on the defensive end, getting up into passing lanes and contesting shots. His size and length are a major asset at this stage in his development, and he's a high IQ player who understands his role, knows how to position himself on both ends, and can create plays for his teammates.     Wyatt is a cerebral guard who doesn't get sped up against pressure and makes good decisions with the ball in his hands. He's a talented, instinctual passer with good vision, and he does a really nice job playing off of two feet around the rim, staying balanced and strong, allowing him to finish through contact.     An off-ball guard who moves well without the ball in his hands, Schipper showed a smooth stroke from the 3-point line off the catch and knocked down a huge shot late in one of Team 1's games to ice away the win. He's a confident shooter with a quick release, and he does a really good job getting his feet set before the catch so that he can rise and fire.
