NW Super 24 NXT WAVE Finals - Top 2029 Performers

The final weekend of the Hoopsource NW Super 24 NXT WAVE took place the last Saturday and Sunday of July, where the circuit's top 15U, 16U, and 17U/18U squads assembled at the Beaverton Hoop YMCA to determine the champions. We had the opportunity to drop by on both days to watch a number of games in the tournament bracket - including the 17U finals - and here's a look at some of the top performers from the Class of 2029.    Our pick for MVP of the 15U division was Nunez, who helped lead A-Train Oregon Magic to the Super 24 tournament title. The rising sophomore is a brilliant marksman from deep as whenever he got a clean look, you could pretty much count on it going in. Far from just a standstill shooter, he was also able to get to the hoop where he capably finished through contact and he was a deft passer as well. He announced during the tournament that he'll be transferring to Tualatin for the 2026-27 season.     Some fabulous pure point guard play from Pacheco. The rising sophomore simply takes great care of the rock, looking to make plays while playing largely turnover free ball. He consistently found teammates early and often for scores both in the half court and in transition, while hitting a number of his own shots to keep the defense honest. 14 points and 7 assists in A-Train Oregon Magic's opening round win on their way to the tournament championship.     Watching McFarlane in a game last season, we were impressed by his shooting stroke. AT the Super 24, we were blown away by his defense. The rising sophomore was an absolute ballhawk on the defensive end, harassing opposing ball-handlers with his on-the-ball defense and getting all sorts of steals playing the passing lanes leading to a number of easy transition buckets. With the ball in his hands, he found teammates for scores as well. 8 points, 4 assists, and 7 steals in A-Train Oregon Magic's opening round win.     Every winning team needs players that are willing to do the dirty work inside, and King was that guy for A-Train Oregon Magic. The rising sophomore put on his hard hat and played hard in the paint by banging on the boards on both ends and getting physical on the defensive end. He scored on a number of putbacks but also stepped out to show off a nice mid-range jumper. A double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds in the team's opening round win.     Perhaps the most intriguing player we saw at the Super 24 - at any age - was Green. The rising sophomore stands at least 6-foot-8 and has incredible upside with his ability to run the floor, finish plays inside, and do big man things such as rebound and defend. Playing with PSB 2029, he largely stuck to what he's currently good at by staying close to the hoop, getting buckets using his strong left hand and was very efficient in doing so. He's signed up for the upcoming PrepHoops Sophomore ID showcase and we're excited about seeing more of him soon.
