Louisiana Freshmen Showcase: Team 3 Spotlight

As we remind campers each year, Prep Hoops randomly generates team placement for every session, class, and event. With that being said, teams will sometimes feature a combination of known talent and new faces who mesh together to form “super teams,” if you will. With the guidance of our elite coaching staff, these squads shine in the showcase setting and help several members of the team gain valuable exposure—which is what the showcase is truly about. That was the case with Team 3, as the group developed instant chemistry and made its mark at the Louisiana Freshmen Showcase in Baton Rouge this past weekend. Let's take a look at the players who made Team 3 go! You may have heard his name before, but understand that primetime production requires primetime recognition, and Kadyn got busy and is deserving of his name being mentioned. It was evident that he could lead his team in scoring, but Kadyn showed maturity beyond his years in displaying a team first mindset by creating for teammates while also imposing his will whenever he saw fit. I always evaluate players on how they affect the game beyond scoring and ball domination. Shelvin checked that box with his rebounding, effort, defensive commitment, and hustle. He was truly a key piece in the success of team 3. In our pre-game speech I challenged campers to impact wining in multiple ways like bringing energy and locking up on defense. Aiden definitely understood the assignment! Quick and active, Luckett had opposing ballhandlers feeling unlucky whenever he picked them up defensively. A true PG, Aiden approaches the game with a solid hoops IQ. His handle and vision had him making frequent trips to the paint where he delivered to teammates and found ways to get his own buckets too. Team 3 was a true beneficiary of his services. As mentioned before, Team 3 was loaded with talent, and often times players might struggle having to accept a role player designation when they are usally accustomed to being "the guy". This was not the case with Alfredo as he utilized the opportunity to play with other high level talent. Ortega is a crafty and smart PG that pushes the tempo and makes the right reads. Alfredo also showcased the ability to knock down shots from beyond the 3 point line. Jo' Koree carried his same productive energy from the 3 on 3 session into the team portion of the camp. His activity and efficiency was consistent throughout the day, which is something you love to see in young prospects. Besides his ability to rebound and block shots, Mitchell also proved he could drill outside shots and push the ball in transition. Lane was a stalworth for his Team 3 squad as he took pride in doing all the "little" things that contribute to wins and championships. Blocking out, contesting shots, setting good screens, might not always sound fancy, but those are the skills and traits that keep players on the floor. That is exactly what Lane did every play and allowed his team to be successful. Lane has good size for a young inside player and uses his soft hands and tight footwork to operate around the paint and rim.
