He did a good job slowing down the basketball, forcing opposing guards to work laterally rather than allowing them to consistently get downhill. Adams used his anticipation and footwork to close off driving angles and keep offensive players from reaching their preferred spots. Aiyepeku was effective at slowing down his assignment while also producing plays that changed the course of possessions. The mismatch forward was equipped to defend either forward position, adjusting to different types of assignments without compromising his effectiveness. Brown could deal with physical play inside while having enough mobility to operate farther away from the basket. Johnson also had a timely sense for when to challenge the basketball or step into a play and create a disruption. There was very little wasted motion in his approach, as he reacted quickly, took efficient paths to the basketball and was decisive when opportunities developed. Thomas frequently turned defensive plays into offense, helping his team get out in transition after forcing mistakes or securing stops.
