North Augusta, SC — The Grassroots Finale closed out the summer AAU schedule with 46 sixth grade teams competing in North Augusta, as Union Elite defeated Playmaker U in the championship. After highlighting the top athletes, ball-handlers, and defenders from the sixth grade division, our coverage continues with a look at the top rebounders. The players featured below consistently controlled the glass, using their size, strength, positioning, timing, and effort to secure possessions, battle through traffic, and create second-chance opportunities on the offensive end...

Casen Dowd provided a strong presence on the glass throughout the Grassroots Finale. He used his physicality to establish position inside and win battles for the basketball on both ends of the floor. Dowd was willing to mix it up in traffic, securing defensive boards while also attacking the offensive glass for extra possessions. His strength and toughness translated into productive rebounding throughout his play.

Darius James had a noticeable advantage on the boards at the Grassroots Finale because of the height he brought to the floor. He consistently played above traffic, getting his hands on missed shots and controlling the ball at its highest point. James took full advantage of his size rather than allowing smaller opponents to beat him to rebounds. The way his height translated into production on the glass was particularly impressive.

Jayden Nicholas gave his team steady production on the boards at the Grassroots Finale. His size put him in position to compete for misses, while his strong hands allowed him to grab the basketball cleanly and secure it through traffic. Nicholas contributed on both the offensive and defensive glass, rarely wasting opportunities when the ball came within his reach. Rebounding was a clear strength of his game throughout the Grassroots Finale.

Benjamin Pankey already possesses an advanced frame for his age, and he put that physical development to good use at the Grassroots Finale. He absorbed contact around the basket, maintained his position and had the strength to come away with the ball against opposing players. Pankey also had reliable hands, allowing him to finish plays once he got a touch on the basketball. His sturdy build and physical approach gave him a strong foundation as a rebounder.

Jayden Turrell's work on the glass gave his team a clear advantage throughout the Grassroots Finale. He repeatedly came away with missed shots on the defensive end while finding ways to earn additional chances with his work on the offensive boards. Turrell had a good feel for where the ball was coming off the rim and regularly beat opponents to those spots. His rebounding helped swing possessions in his team's favor on both ends of the floor.

Stay tuned for more from Prep Hoops Next!
