The first day of Mile High Madness always brings a mix of familiar faces and new names, and Day 1 certainly didn't disappoint. Some players backed up what we've already seen this summer, while others introduced themselves with performances that demanded another evaluation. I'm curious to see how they look for the rest of the weekend.

We have showcase season coming up, and with the end of club scene coming quickly, rankings, and showcases here, now is the perfect time to lock in with a subscription.

Some of the biggest risers in our rankings started by showing up & showing out at a showcase & they're approaching quickly!

Your showcase evaluation could be the one that changes everything.

Freshman & Sophomore Showcase - August 8th (Rankings Immediately following)
Top Expo (2027 & 2028s) - September 13th

Use Colorado26PH25OFF at checkout for 25% OFF & receive a custom registered graphic that comes with it! He was hitting plenty of counter baskets as the defense was throwing different looks at him and pressuring, and he was still making plays and responding. He also hit a few 3 pointers, which kept his team in it and ready to make pushes, and even whenever PSB went down, they went through him to keep him in it. Dangler is a glue guy who plays the right way, made the right play, and kept standing out, and is a player I'm curious to see more of.

Klein was the biggest reason that PSB picked up a win on Day 1 with his play in the 2nd half. Klein hit 3-4 and-1 baskets as he did not shy away from contact and looked for physical play. He was finishing with either hand; he isn't afraid to use his body and seems to be willing to just do what is needed. I liked how he moved without the ball. He found holes in the defense and kept plays alive as he got rebounds that gave his team second-chance opportunities. He'll be a name to follow moving forward, and we'll add him to the rankings this next go round.

Nicholson was my favorite player on the day, and it was not even close. Despite playing up two age groups, he was able to show that his game translates, and he has me wanting to see if he's able to duplicate that performance. Nicholson was smooth and efficient. He didn't miss many shots; he didn't take any that were contested despite being the best player on the floor. He shot the ball well, played with a good pace, and used his long body for finishes. There was a stretch in the first half where it felt like he had 15 straight points. Nicholson hit floaters, had one of the top plays of the day with a tough up and under, and I can admit I am a fan. I'm intrigued by his game and will certainly be going to watch his next game.

Smith is a player who really caught my attention on Day 1, and his ability to get runouts and command the offense stood out. Smith was extremely fast, had a few blow-by finishes, and also got out in transition and finished with no one near him. He's decisive with the ball, looking to get to his spots, and is a great finisher around the rim. Wyoming Premier Hoops played hard and connected. If they're able to follow Carmelo's lead, I think they could really get going on Day 2.

I was watching another game and kept looking over and seeing a player score over and over. I had to come over and start watching Greeley Titans, and it was Vega who continued to turn head son Day 1. He made high-level reads, attacked the rim, and finished through traffic. Vega has good footwork, moves well, and scores in bunches. His confidence helped him have a day that helped get him on our radar, and I want to see how he looks moving forward. We hope to see more of Vega as we feel he could make some noise and battle with some of the better guards in the state if he can continue playing like he did on Day 1.
