New Guard Additions in the 2028 Top 50

This spring and summer provided tons of opportunities to watch SoCal prospects in the class of 2028 in a variety of settings from high school to club to showcase events. With three months of in-depth evaluation settings under out belt, we have rolled out a fresh update on our 2028 rankings. Below we break down the new guard additions who cracked the Top 50 rankings.    Ball emerged as one of the more intriguing scoring point guards in the 2028 class with his ability to create and make perimeter jumpers off the bounce. The 6-foot-2 rising junior, who transferred to Brentwood from Beverly Hills in the spring, is quick, shifty and decisive in isolation situations which allows him to keep defenders off balance and create space to get into his rhythm jumper. Ball has shown flashes of transition playmaking ability to complement his bucket-getting prowess. Ball checks in at No. 22 in the region.     Moczydlowsky has been on our radar since he entered high school as a super smooth left-handed shooter who was best in spot-up situations. Over the last year or so, the 6-foot-3 Crossroads High product has blossomed into much more than a stand-still threat with improved ball skills, increased physicality and a welcomed pop of vertical athleticism when attacking and finishing at the rim. The biggest jump that Moczydlowsky made was with his confidence and assertiveness on the offensive end of the floor which he developed playing at the 17u level with California Gold on the 3SSB Circuit.     I have Bernal firmly on my "sleeper" list but his play last season with Corona Santiago and with Gamepoint's 16u 3SSB team should wake up high Division II and low Division I programs out west. The 6-foot-2 rising junior has a true feel for the point guard position with his ability to play controlled in a fast-paced offense and make high IQ reads and decisions in transition and half-court settings. Bernal really gets out and pushes the tempo, acts as a trigger and table-setter for his teammates and delivers on-time and on-target passes, which is why he entered the rankings at No. 37.     Smith is a speedy open court and half-court slasher who uses his burst, shiftiness and strength get into the lane and make plays for himself and teammates. The 6-foot-1 combo guard is an aggressive downhill attacker in transition who can also break down defenders in isolation with his quickness, shiftiness and creativity with the ball in his hands. Smith is at his best when putting pressure on the rim but is equally effective with his quick stop-and-pop pull-up jumper.     Not only is Grossman a new addition to our 2028 rankings but he's also a new addition to the state after transferring to Crossroads from Nevada-power, Bishop Gorman. The long, wiry 6-foot-4 junior brings an elite trait that translates to every level of the game: perimeter shooting. Grossman is a knock-down three-point shooter off-the-catch with deep range and has proven to be threat off movement and when using screens to get open looks.     The sturdily-built and broad-shouldered shooting guard has an intriguing combination of positional size and length to go along with his ability to stretch the floor. Pomianek is a lethal catch-and-shoot threat from three-point range and can attack a closeout, use his frame to initiate contact and stay on balance to finish through it at the rim.     Hatch is one of the top junior prospects in Orange County and he backed that reputation up playing with Open Gym Premier's 16u 3SSB team where he shot better than 51 percent from three-point range through the first three sessions. Hatch is a strong-framed 6-foot-5 shooting guard who can really stretch the floor off the catch from multiple spots and ranges from behind the arc.
