College Commitment – Braylon Gaines (2027 Nelson)

The visit to Missoula is actually set for August. But Braylon Gaines Braylon Gaines 6'0" | PG Nelson | 2027 State OR wasn't going to wait any longer. The rising senior point guard from Nelson knew he had the right fit for him at the college level so he went ahead and made his commitment to Montana, publicly announcing his decision on Thursday afternoon.

"It was the right fit because the minute they started recruiting me I don't think there's been a day we haven't been in contact with me or my family, really showing they care for me not only as a basketball player but as a person," Gaines said. "I feel it's definitely the closest relationship a head coach made with me! Also the track record of them producing great guards so just wanting to continue that trend, and also Missoula seems like such a beautiful place as well. Their facilities are top tier."

Montana had been tracking Gaines for some time and really amped things up when head coach Travis DeCuire watched the star point guard play at the WIBCA D1 Recruiting Event in Auburn in late June. An offer was extended, the relationship intensified, and Gaines enjoyed learning just how well he'd match with what the Grizzlies do on the court - and how he could possibly contribute immediately as a true freshman.

"They play in transition a lot with the point starting the break making decisions so that's what I really loved," Gaines said. "Hopefully I can come in and work in the summer and prove myself I'm ready to start or play big time minutes."

The commitment is a reward for the hard work that Gaines has put in - not only with his game but getting healthy after missing much of last season with injuries. He's still not quite 100 percent but he's continuing the grind. "Definitely getting in the best shape of my life, eating well, recovering and continuing to work on my shot," Gaines said. "I feel the rest will take care of itself."

With his decision out of the way, Gaines now focuses on his senior season at Nelson where the goal is simple.

"A state championship," he said.

Our congratulations go out to Gaines and his family on his decision. He's the second member of the Class of 2027 to make a college decision so far, joining Clackamas guard Max Martinov who has committed to Santa Clara.
