WBY Tourney in Marshfield: Pools C/D standouts, results

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Tri-County captured&nbsp;the Pools C-D title at the 22-team Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook Summer Tournament held June 6-7 at the beautiful new complex at Columbus Catholic.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Following are some observations from the seventh annual&nbsp;event:</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Pool C Standings</strong><br>Colby 4-0, Loyal 3-1, Pacelli 3-1, Abbotsford 1-3, Thorp 1-3, Marshfield Orange 0-4.<br><br><strong>Pool D Standings</strong><br>Tri-County 4-0, Columbus Catholic 3-1, Amherst 2-2, Eau Claire Memorial (2) 2-2, Stratford 1-3, Spencer 0-4.<br><br><strong>Pools C/D Title Game</strong><br>Tri-County defeated Colby.<br><br><strong>Pools C/D Most Valuable Player</strong><br><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2386230' first='Gage' last='Beggs'], 6-2, Sr., G/F, Tri-County<br></strong>Beggs saved his best game for the toughest competition as he scored 23 points in a come-from-behind victory over Columbus Catholic. Beggs had three triples in the contest and made three huge foul shots with the game on the line. Beggs and classmate [player_tooltip player_id='3016466' first='RJ' last='Meddaugh'] form a solid one-two scoring punch for Tri-County, which finished 12-14 last year under Brian Siegenthaler. Beggs averaged 14 ppg and 9 rpg as a junior to earn second-team all-Central Wisconsin South Conference laurels. <br><strong><br>Pools C/D Breakout Performers</strong><br><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='3666646' first='Hawk' last='Gardner'], 6-2, Frosh., G, Columbus Catholic</strong><br>Gardner was extremely impressive for the Dons as he showcased a variety of offensive moves while scoring at all three levels in four games for coach Joe Konieczny. He finished with 20 points in a win over Stratford, 14 in a win over Amherst, 23 in a win over Eau Claire Memorial (2) and 16 in the 54-50 loss to Tri-County. Gardner and fellow incoming freshman [player_tooltip player_id='3525755' first='Kofi' last='Yeboah'] both earned substantial playing time over the weekend for the Dons with several key upperclassmen sitting out the tournament due to being a member of the sectional-qualifying baseball team at the school.<br><br><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2386444' first='Jake' last='Williams'], 6-1, Sr., G, Pacelli</strong><br>Williams was one of the more impressive defensive players of the entire WBY Tournament in Marshfield. His ability to put constant pressure on opponents with his quickness, length and quick hands led to numerous steals and breakout layups for the returning first-team all-Central Wisconsin South Conference performer.
