Updated 2028 Rankings: RVA Guards

We recently updated our 2028 class rankings in Virginia, adding over 25 names in a class that continues to get better it seems like every day. Here's a look at part one of the guards from the Richmond area.   #5) [player_tooltip player_id='2548185' first='Kelvin' last='Anderson'] | 6'3” CG | Petersburg   <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2025/10/Kelvin-Anderson.jpg"><img src="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2025/10/Kelvin-Anderson.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-3003697" /></a></figure>   Anderson was a big part of Petersburg's run to the state championship last year, and he's continued to show he's one of the top players in the state with college coaches coming in droves to watch him. The 6'3” combo is a strong and athletic guard who gets downhill and finishes well through traffic, he has great touch on post fades and can knock it down from deep  off the catch, he is a physical defender who plays with a mean streak, and he's a very good rebounder for his position as well.   #21) [player_tooltip player_id='3554525' first='Danny' last='Mooney'] | 5'11” PG | Collegiate   <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2026/04/IMG_6526-crop-988x649-1781046232.jpg"><img src="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2026/04/IMG_6526-crop-988x649-1781046232.jpg?w=800" alt="" class="wp-image-3667253" /></a><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Photo: instagram @dannymooney21</figcaption></figure>   Mooney had a breakout season at Collegiate and is trending up as a prospect, and he showed that with a great showing at VISAA Live this past weekend. As the son of a big time college head coach he has the high IQ and feel that you would come to expect, he can drill it from deep with range and a quick release, he is a sneaky explosive athlete when he gets downhill, and he has great instincts on the defensive end as well.   #41) [player_tooltip player_id='2194718' first='Justin' last='Golden'] | 5'11” PG | Henrico   Golden is part of a young Henrico team that has been on the rise the last few years, and he's trending toward being one of the best guards in Richmond the next few years. He's a shifty ball handler who can touch the paint and collapse the defense, he has good playmaking ability and can set up scorers and make it easy, he can make shots from multiple levels both on and off the ball, and he really thrives in transition with his speed and athleticism.   #46) [player_tooltip player_id='3554524' first='Javarius' last='Thurston'] | 5'9” PG | Hermitage   Thurston had a great sophomore season for a young and talented Hermitage team that is on the rise, and while he isn't the biggest player he makes a big impact when he's on the floor. He has a lightning quick first step and great speed in the open floor, he is strong and compact when he gets in the lane with the ability to finish over bigger defenders, he makes plays for others, and he sets the tone on the defensive end as well.   #52) [player_tooltip player_id='3554533' first='Jemell' last='Smith'] | 5'9” PG | Cristo Rey   Smith had a big junior season at Cristo Rey who is a program on the rise despite being one of the newer programs in the state, and he's another small guard that simply gets the job done on both ends. He is shifty and has the ability to change speeds and beat defenders off the bounce, he can knock it down from deep off the catch and off the bounce, he can make plays for others in transition and when he gets downhill, and he brings a lot of toughness on both ends too.   #102) [player_tooltip player_id='3659504' first='Jules' last='Marshall'] | 6'1” CG | LC Bird   <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2026/04/Marshall-Jules.jpg"><img src="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2026/04/Marshall-Jules.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-3592833" /></a></figure>   Marshall makes his debut in the rankings and will only go up from here, as he's part of a Bird team that has one of the deepest backcourts in the state, and he's a big part of that as one of the more talented guards in the area. The 6'1” combo can fill it up in bunches with his ability to get to the rim and finish with both hands, he can create space and knock down shots from all over the floor, he is strong and athletic on both ends, and as he continues to develop and learn the game he's going to be one of the top players in Richmond.
