We recently updated our 2027 class rankings in Virginia, with it being one of the deepest rankings I have been apart of in my 10 years with the Prep Hoops VA site. We will take a look at some of the top players in each region of the state from a positional standpoint, with a look at the top 10 shooting guards and small forwards in the Central/Southern/Western areas.

#10) Makai Ragland | 6'6” SF | Albemarle

Ragland is one of the most intriguing prospects in the state, as well as one of the top players in Charlottesville over the past few years as he's helped Albemarle to deep state tournament runs in each of his seasons. The 6'6” wing has all of the tools you look for in a high level prospect as he has great positional size and is an explosive athlete when he's around the rim, he can knock down open shots from deep, he can put it on the deck and create for himself and others, and he's able to play and guard multiple positions too.

#23) Christian Dinges | 6'5” SG | Fork Union

Dinges was the Class 4 State Player of the Year last year after helping Handley win their first ever state championship in basketball, and he chose to take a post grad year at FUMA and is having a great summer playing with Team Loaded VA as well. The 6'5” wing has somewhat of a throwback game as he's able to use his size to bump and create space to get shots off, he is a big time athlete who plays with a great motor attacking the glass and playing above the rim, he can knock down shots from all over the floor, and his blend of skill and athleticism makes him a walking mismatch at his size.

#24) Will Braun-Duin | 6'3” SG | Handley

Braun-Duin was Dinges running mate in Handley's state championship run, as the 6'3” off guard is one of the best shooters and scorers you will find anywhere in the state. He is as confident as you will find as he can absolutely drill it with range as soon as he comes across half court, he moves well off the ball to get open and relocates well when using pump fakes, he is a crafty ball handler who works well in ball screens, and he finishes well over more athletic players in the paint too.

#52) Derrius Jones | 6'6” SF|. Blue Ridge

Jones is a two sport star who is getting recruited in both basketball and football, and whatever sport he ends up choosing he has huge upside to play it at a high level in college. He's a super explosive athlete who can run the floor and play above the rim, he's built like an ox and is physical in the paint finishing and fighting for rebounds, he can switch and guard multiple positions, and he is willing to do the little things to help his team win as well.

#66) Dereck Batiz-Lugo | 6'1” SG | Central-Woodstock

Batiz-Lugo was the Class 2 Player of the Year leading Central-Woodstock to a state championship this past year, and while he may not play in the biggest market he can flat out hoop and impacts the game across the board every time he's on the floor. He gets where he was to with a shifty handle and good burst, he is an excellent finisher through contact, he can knock down shots from deep and in the midrange, and he plays with a great motor on the defensive end as well.

#75) Jayden Lacey | 6'4” SF | Turner Ashby

Lacey is coming off of a breakout junior season and will be one of the top players in the Harrisonburg area as a senior, and he's a player that college coaches should start to get eyes on as the summer progresses playing with VA Havoc. The 6'4” wing has prototypical size for the next level with a frame that will fill out nicely, he is a dead eye shooter from deep with a quick release and good range, he has a high IQ and is unselfish making his teammates better with his passing ability, and while he may be on the quieter side he will dominate on both ends of the floor.

#94) Shamar Curley | 6'5” SF | STAB

When it comes to upside, Curley is chock full of it as he is a naturally gifted and talented player who can put his mark on the game in a lot of different ways. He's an explosive athlete who thrives in transition and when he can get downhill, he can knock down open shots from the perimeter, he's able to work in isolation on the perimeter and posting smaller defenders, and he's a solid rebounder for his position too.

#95) Jamarion Davis | 6'4” SG | Dan River

Davis was one of the top players in the Danville area this past season, as the 6'4” wing put up big time numbers and showcased a lot of upside moving froward as well. He's a big time athlete who can slash and get to the rim at will where he has great body control and finishes well in traffic, he thrives in transition where he can play above the rim, and defensively he really shines as he sits and guards on the perimeter well but is also a really good help side shot blocker too.

#99) Tre Smith | 6'5” SG | Liberty Christian

Smith was one of the breakout players for an LCA team that was deep and talented, making a run to the state tournament this past season, and he'll be a name for coaches to get to know moving forward. At 6'5” he has great positional size and knows how to use his size to get his shot off or get downhill and finish around the rim, he can score the ball in a variety of ways both off the catch and off the bounce, he is a good defender both on the ball and in help, and he still has a lot of room to polish and improve moving forward.

#101) Samuel Seaborn | 6'4” SG | Western Albemarle

Seaborn was part of a deep Western Albemarle team that was one of the better teams in the Charlottesville area this past year, and his unique all-around skillset makes him an impact in a lot of different ways. While he isn't flashy he can handle the ball well and makes good reads with the ball in his hands, he can space out and knock down shots from deep, he gets to spots in the midrange and at the rim to finish, and he plays with a great motor on both ends of the floor too.
