We recently updated our 2027 class rankings in Virginia, with it being one of the deepest rankings I have been apart of in my 10 years with the Prep Hoops VA site. We will take a look at some of the top players in each region of the state from a positional standpoint, with a look at the top 10 shooting guards and small forwards in the Richmond area.

#7) Troy Tomlin | 6'4” SG | John Marshall

Tomlin has really seen his stock blow up over the past year or so, as he was one of the top scorers in the state leading John Marshall to a Class 2 semifinal appearance as well. The 6'4” wing is so intriguing as he's a top tier athlete who gets downhill and plays above the rim with authority, he thrives in transition with his ability to run and finish, he shoots it at a good clip from deep, and he has all the tools to be a lock down defender at the next level as well.

#35) Brady Burnette | 6'3” SG | St. Chris

Burnette has been one of the more steady players in the Richmond area over the past few years, and the 6'3” wing is one of the more high IQ players you will come across as well. He plays with great energy and toughness on both ends of the floor, he shoots it well from deep with range and a quick release, he's a good secondary ball handler who makes the right play consistently, and whether he's making shots or not he will be making a big impact on the game for sure.

#57) Jackson Rutley | 6'4” SG | Benedictine

Rutley is one of the more underrated prospects in the Richmond area, as the 6'4” off guard has a lot of tools that translate well to the next level. He has great positional size and a big time athlete who can play above the rim and is a lock down perimeter defender, he is a knock down shooter from deep with good range, he can create off the bounce and is very good at getting separation, and he is just scratching the surface with how good he can be moving forward.

#92) Ahmad Britt | 6'4” SF | John Marshall

Britt was an unsung x-factor for the John Marshall group this past season, as he may have been overshadowed by Tomlin at times but he was a big time two way impact guy for them throughout the season. The 6'4” wing brings a gritty style of play to his game as he gets after it and uses his length to get deflections and challenge shots, he is a very good rebounder on both ends for his position, he can score it from multiple levels working both on and off the ball, and he is willing to accept different roles as well.

#127) Eduardo Marra | 6'5” SF | Carmel School

Marra is one of the more intriguing and improved players over the past few years, as he's evolved into a Swiss-army knife on the offensive end who can impact the game in a lot of different ways. At 6'5” he has a good handle that gets him to spots and allows him to create for himself and others, he's developed into a three level scorer who is crafty in the midrange and at the rim, he sees the floor well and delivers passes on point, and he can defend multiple positions as well.

#130) Devin Butler | 6'2” SG | Manchester

Butler was the heart and soul of a very good Manchester team this past year, and he's set to be one of the top players in Chesterfield County next year. The 6'2” off guard is a tough nosed player on both ends of the floor, he gets downhill aggressively and scores it well through traffic when he gets to the rim, he can knock it down from deep, and he'll make winning plays on both ends of the floor too.

#149) Won Evans | 6'3” SG | Varina

Evans transferred to Varina last year from Brunswick Academy where he was a one man show, and he played a very important role in Varina making a run to yet another state championship game. The intrigue is easy to see as he's a skilled wing who can play both on and off the ball, he is able to knock down shots from deep and in the midrange with his pull-up, he is unselfish and sees the floor well, and he is a gritty in your face defender too.

#152) Hasaan White | 6'1” SG | Glen Allen

White was part of a Glen Allen team that was one of the deeper teams in the Richmond area, and he was one of their better two way players on the perimeter this season. He's a big guard who is physical on both ends of the floor, he gets downhill and thrives at finishing through contact, he can knock down open shots when he's off the ball, and he is a good playmaker who can get the defense to collapse and find open shooters and cutters.

#158) Nolan Anthony | 6'5” SF | James River

Anthony had a breakout season for James River this past year, emerging as a late bloomer of a prospect who coaches are starting to find pretty intriguing this summer. At 6'5” he has a great build and uses his size when he gets to spots off the bounce to rise up and hit tough shots, he works well off the ball reading screens and getting to spots where he can score it from all three levels, he knocks it down at a good clip from deep, and he has a good feel for the game as well.

#161) Ra'Sean Miller | 6'4” SF | Huguenot

Miller has been one of the breakout players of the spring with Circle Sports and has had a lot of college coaches talking about him with his positional size and natural ability to impact the game in a lot of different ways. He has long arms and is an explosive athlete that allows him to finish above the rim in transition, he's a smooth lefty who can knock down shots at a good clip, he can play on the ball and make plays for others, and he shows flashes of being a lock down defender as well.
