Player Development Insights: Who's Ready to Lead?

Every program has a development plan and players grow to step into roles. Some players develop into leads, and others develop into utility guys. These players have paid their dues and trusted the process, and now is their time. They are built to step into the roles of the players that graduated and accept the lead position of scoring, leading and making the plays that matter to get the program over the basketball hump.    Washington spent last season as a key piece, but based on his development, he is ready to take the lead at Wossman. He is a poised player with electric guy qualities. He is a throw back guard that works in the mid-range and at the rim. He has a football player frame and uses his athleticism to get to his spots, and control opposing guards on defense. Washington is next up in a long line of great Wossman players.     Armwood was a key player for Zachary last season and locked in on intangible production. This season, he looks ready to provide more of a scoring punch and he has the skill to do it. He is a typical Zachary guard. Highly skilled, athletic and energetic on the court. He approaches every game with intensity and just plays winning basketball. Coaches that want a scorer that operates in the seams of the game to promote winning will like Armwood.     King showed that he is one of the top bigs in the state, but controlling the paint on both sides of the ball. He plays the game with great pace and control giving him an advantage on both sides of the ball. He doesn't get excited or lose his cool on the court. He does it all with poise. He could easily transition to the most productive player on the court and make West Monroe a factor in 5A hoops. Keep an eye on this stock rising post from North Louisiana.     Peek continues to show improvement in his game. His understanding of the game is visible. He picks his spots to impose his skill offensively while locking in defensively on every possession. He is automatic in catch and shoot situations, and takes his time to read the defense and score in defensive creases. His around the rim skill continues to improve rounding out his developing game. Impressive JSE performance for the rising sophomore.     Williams has evolved over the past three seasons, and heading into his senior season is easily in the conversation as one of the best shooters in the state. He has locked in on skill development, and changed his body putting him in position as a next level prospect. His game is unorthodox, but extremely effective. He is not a one dimensional player, because he has also added the mid-range and shift package that gets him to the rim. Look for Williams to make a splash in the updated rankings.
