NorCal Summer Notebook

Throughout the Summer PH NorCal is in the Gym on the weekends local event or out of town we're always looking to add and evaluate new prospects, and others. Here's where we've been in June when high school basketball prospects play with their team.   June 6-7 Nor Cal High School Summer Classic: Mountain House High School, Mountain House, CA   June 12-14 Section 7, Mesa Arizona   June 20 Sand Dunes Summer Classic, at St. Ignatius College Prep, San Francisco, CA   June 21 Dougherty Valley Summer Classic, at Dougherty Valley High School, San Ramon, CA    A fast guard, steady, he finds ways to contribute. He's fast pushing, and passing up court. He's a good ball handler, moves the ball in half-court sets, spends time up top. He has quick dribbles, and crossovers. He can get into the paint for jumpers. He can and will shoot 3's if open. He played his way off the Watch List. He'll be a contributor on a good team     He's a long wing type of player, probably still growing listed at 6'4, still developing his overall skill set. He moves along the perimeter will shoot open 3's. He's thin but, willing to help rebound. He helps relieve ball pressure, making himself available, then passing up. His handles can use some sharpening. He shows alertness on the defensive side, getting steals, deflections, taking up space in the passing lanes with his length.     A long arm prospect standing around 6'4. He has lengthy arms, takes up passing space, distracts 3pt shooters going out with hands up. He'll change some shots in the paint, he has good hops. He runs the court, can finish with dunks. He'll use a few dribbles to get into the paint, can hit the short jumper. We saw mid-post action using two dribbles, turning and finish at the rim.     He's an X Factor on this team, can effect the game in different areas on both ends. He doesn't have to score much, though he has put in work the to increase his offensive production. At 6'3 he battles for rebounds, on both ends, will get tough put back points in traffic. He runs the court for transition buckets. Often tasked with defending the other teams scorer. He has the size strength, and attitude to defend multiple positions. He can handle, will use his dribble to attack at times. He's a ball mover.     He's an underrated guard point guard we don't see a lot. He's got quality point guard skills, excellent vision, ball mover. A strong upper body, doesn't mind using it to bump defenders off balance while driving to the basket for points. He's got a clean mid-range with lift, he'll drop a 3ptr in rhythm off the dribble, or knock down open 3's on the catch. He's got footspeed, leverage, and strength to stay close, can cause disruption at times.     He's a good size shooting guard with form and release. He has footwork making cuts, using screens, good movement freeing himself up for open looks. He's good on the catch and shoot 3 from the corners, might put up a quick 3 in transition. He'll drive the baseline, hit the short corner jumper. He gives effort with a solid body on the defensive side of the ball. He's a Newcomer.     He's a contributor getting quality court time this season starting or coming off the bench. He's had a productive Spring and Summer we see the improvement. Playing to his strengths, helps the team. He works hard defending in the paint, and going after rebounds. He's not going to score lot, but he will finish around the rim, and get putback point. He's a high and low post passer, make cuts to finish around the rim.     He's a strong defensive minded prospect doesn't mind mixing it up with taller players in the post. He bumps, bangs, annoys bigger players trying to post him up, he makes good use of his fouls in a good way. He plays bigger than the 6'2 frame he has, helps rebound. Not much for scoring, but will use one or two dribbles for strong drives into the paint for buckets in traffic. A Newcomer.     He's showing signs of a breakout season. Consistency is key for the experienced prospect standing 6'5, solid body with an improving skill set for a wing/forward. He can use the dribble drive to attack along the baseline, he'll shoot an open 3trs on occasion. He's a ball mover, screener, starting to finish through contact, a bit more physical defending the in post area and going after rebounds. His numbers should tick up this season.     He's been on the rise for a while, had to change his game a bit to be more of an inside presence on both ends. He's 6'8 with good movement, shows flashes of a player who can make 3's. He's effective inside, cleaning up missed shots, attacking the boards, getting key rebounds. He averaged 8.5 rebounds a game. He has size and strength, can be a force in the paint if he wants, maybe join the double, double club.     A versatile prospect stronger than he looks. He's an improving ball handler, plays both guard positions, and forward, makes good decisions on the court. He has good explosion going up and around the rim. He goes up high off two feet for point and rebounds, lift on the paint jumper. He's an alert defender, positions himself, sees what's going on, helps off ball. Often times he'll defend taller players.
