Kansas City, MO — Session two of the Jr. EYBL Southwest Region saw several 8th-grade teams lock in their place at Nike Peach Jam in July. The weekend also provided an opportunity for a number of talented wing prospects to showcase their value, with players standing out through their positional versatility, scoring punch, defensive versatility, athletic tools, and ability to contribute in multiple facets of the game. As we continue our 8th-grade coverage, this installment focuses on some of the top wing standouts from Jr. EYBL Southwest Session 2...

Jasyd Boone played a crucial role in helping his team secure a spot in Augusta at the Jr. EYBL Southwest Session 2. He brings good size to the wing position, which allows him to score in a variety of ways while creating matchup problems for opposing defenders. Boone also used his length and physical tools to make a strong impact defensively. In addition, he showed good rebounding instincts and consistently contributed on the glass, an area that proved important to his team's success.

The first time we evaluated Jayce Domino-Gipson was at this same stop a year ago, and his growth since then was evident at the Jr. EYBL Southwest Session 2. He played with much more confidence and aggression, consistently asserting himself on both ends. Domino-Gipson scored at a high level from the wing position, using his offensive skill set to generate production in a variety of ways. Defensively, he guarded multiple positions with purpose and competitiveness. His continued development, physical tools, and overall trajectory point to considerable long-term upside.

Robert Ferguson has steadily built momentum over the past year, and that growth continued to show at the Jr. EYBL Southwest Session 2. What stands out most is his willingness to do whatever is needed to help his team win. Whether it was providing offense, competing defensively, or stepping up in key stretches, Ferguson consistently found ways to impact the game. He possesses the ability to take over as a scorer when necessary and has shown he can shoulder a significant offensive load while remaining productive on both ends.

Matthew Rucker's value extended far beyond scoring at the Jr. EYBL Southwest Session 2. Playing on a roster loaded with talent, he consistently found ways to separate himself with his impact from the wing. Rucker stretched defenses with his shot-making ability, converted opportunities when called upon, and brought another level of athleticism on the defensive end. His anticipation and activity allowed him to generate transition opportunities, where he quickly flipped momentum by turning defensive stops into easy offense.

Kadyn Shelvin continued to show why he is such an effective two-way wing at the Jr. EYBL Southwest Session 2. He played with an aggressive approach offensively, consistently looking to attack and create opportunities for his team. On the defensive end, Shelvin was scrappy, competitive, and willing to do the dirty work. His high motor and ability to make winning plays on both ends made him a reliable presence throughout, bringing energy and toughness every time he stepped on the court.

Stay tuned for more from Prep Hoops Next!
