James is an explosive guard who plays with a fearless mentality. In Saturday's game, I watched the opposing team have no answers for him defensively. James scored in a variety of ways that made him hard to guard. Whether it was driving to the basket, scoring from mid-range or knocking down three-pointers, James showed why he was the best player on the court. There were moments in the game where he made consecutive shots in a row. During the second half, he attacked the paint, knocked down a three-pointer and scored a lay-up in transition. Defensively, James is what I call a “ ball-hawk.” He played great on the ball and forced opposing guards into mistakes. A majority of his steals led to positive outcomes for Train for the Best 13u NXT PRO. James is a great player who has the talent to become even greater as his game continues to progress. Keep it up James!!

Elijah was un-guardable in the team's match-up against Train for the Best 13u PRO NXT. He was great at everything on the basketball court Saturday afternoon. Elijah scored, rebounded and defended multiple players from the opposing team. He's an excellent scorer who had success from every level of the basketball court. Elijah showed the ability to score in the paint, attack the basket, make floaters and knock down three-pointers. In some instances, he was able to convert multiple three-point play opportunities after being fouled. I cannot count the amount of times I heard his teammates screaming out, “And One!,” during the game. Elijah is a great rebounder who played hard and battled for every board he was able to grab. Some led to put-backs around the basket, others led to second shot attempts for his teammates. On defense, he used his length to generate steals and block shots. Elijah is a great all around player who is destined to be a special talent.

This young man continues to be a great floor leader on the basketball court. I watched Jayon play during the middle school basketball season. He was really good on that day. Well, he continued that same excellence over the weekend. Jayon is a great ball handler, facilitator, play-maker and scorer when he has to be. He easily gets around defenders and attacks the paint. This led to him making tough lay-ups or dishing off passes to his teammates. Jayon was also great at creating the space he needed to knock down mid-range jumpers. He has an excellent crossover/step-back dribble that proved to be effective against the Train for the best 13u NXT PRO guards. On defense, he has not changed his tenacity to force turnovers. Jayon is great at jumping the passing lanes for steals. He finished the game with three. In my opinion, Jayon is a true “floor general.” He has the skill and mental make-up to lead any team he plays with. Keep it up Jayon!!

Parker Wright 5-3- 2031- LaSalle Middle School- Train for the Best 13u NXT PRO

I remember watching this little guy at the Prephoops Middle School Camp a year ago. Parker is a player who can succeed at both point and shooting guard. He's an excellent ball handler who easily gets around defenders. Parker makes plays in the paint with crisp passes or floaters around the basket. I have always loved watching the smallest players become the biggest difference makers for a team. Well, this is Parker! He showed great leadership on the court by being vocal with his teammates. A large percentage of the plays he made had a major impact on the team. As I said, Parker can score when he needs to. In the match-up against CTJ Elite 13u-1, he knocked down multiple threes and pushed the pace during fast-break opportunities. Defensively, he has quick hands that effectively causes opposing players to make mistakes while handling the basketball. Parker is an excellent combo guard who still has room to grow and mature. Imagine how good he could be in the coming years?

Malachi Edwards 5-11- 2031- Westfield Middle School- IBC Heat 2031-

Malachi is an exciting combo guard who excels at pushing the pace. Whenever IBC Heat 2031 ran the floor, Malachi was the catalyst for the team's success. He's an excellent ball handler who used a quick first-step to beat defenders to the rim. Malachi showed a knack for finishing around the basket with acrobatic lay-ups. He did this on numerous occasions which led to three-point play chances after being fouled. Malachi showed great leadership with his ability to communicate with teammates on offense and defense. He always made sure other players were in the correct positions to succeed. After watching him play, I saw an unselfish player who looked to get others involved while staying aggressive offensively. Whenever there was an opportunity to attack, Malachi did so without hesitation. On defense, he forced multiple turnovers and made ball handling difficult for opposing guards. Malachi is a great play-maker who happens to be the heart of the IBC Heat 2031 team. I expect to see a lot of accolades for this young man in the future.

Ben Rucker 6-3- 2031- Noblesville East Middle School- IBC Heat 2031-

Ben is a hardworking player who hustles to make every play on the basketball court. He was all over the floor Saturday afternoon. Ben was a monster on the boards. Especially, on the offensive glass. The majority of Ben's scores came from cleaning up missed shots by his teammates. The other rebounds he grabbed led to giving IBC Heat 2031 players more opportunities to score. Ben showed the ability to be a viable threat offensively. He was able to beat opponents off the dribble and score on multiple occasions. When he had a mis-match in the post, he took advantage of the situation. Ben is a better shooter than I believed him to be. In the beginning of the game, I watched a player who attacked the basket and scored in the box. Well, I was wrong because Ben showed off a nice perimeter jump-shot in the second half of the game. On defense, Ben played with a big abundance of energy. He blocked shots and made scoring difficult for players attacking the paint. Ben is a good player who will play a major role in IBC Heat 2031's success this summer.

Jeremiah is the type of guard who attacks his opponents from the beginning of the game, til the end. He epitomizes what a scoring guard should be. Jeremiah has a scorer's mentality that could be valuable to any team. He slashes to the rim, scores tough baskets, knocks down perimeter shots and shoots threes when opportunities are available. There was a moment in the game when Jeremiah won his one-on-one match-up. He used a host of dribble moves to beat his defender into the paint where he scored on a nice reverse lay-up. In other moments, he was able to score points in transition. Jeremiah is a fiery player who showed positive emotion throughout the game. Every play he made seemed to energize his teammates. Defensively, Jeremiah was great at locking down opposing guards with excellent on-ball pressure. He finished the game with multiple steals. Jeremiah is an awesome two-way player who I truly enjoyed watching. He has a bright future in the game of basketball.

Isaiah was the most dominant player on the court Sunday afternoon. After watching him play, I was thoroughly impressed with his production on both ends of the floor. He's an aggressive rebounder who attacks the glass whenever he has the chance. Isaiah is the type of player who does everything for the team. If you need him to score, he'll get you a basket. He took full advantage of his size when there was a mis-match in the paint. Isaiah showed excellent passing skills. His passes out of double-teams resulted in high percentage shots for his teammates. Isaiah did most of his damage by dominating the offensive boards and scoring around the basket. I enjoyed seeing him play the game with a calm demeanor. Isaiah had a "workman like" mentality on the basketball court. He went out on the court and did his job. Defensively, he protected the paint, blocked shots and altered every scoring attempt that came into his space. Isaiah has the potential to be a double-double machine! He finished the game with 19 points and 12 rebounds. He has the skills to become an elite player as he grows and matures. Keep working Isaiah!!
