The Prep Hoops Circuit fired up for a rare June AAU event this weekend outside of Detroit. Coined the Great Lakes Closer, the small field still produced some solid play. Following are standouts from Saturday action in the 16U division.

[player_tooltip player_id='3581343' first='Sidiki' last='Kromah'] 6-4 2028 St Cecile International School (Canada) The last time the Windsor guard was in this gyn he was lifting a trophy. There is no bracket this weekend. If there was, I would not be betting against this elite competitor. A very advanced physical guard with outstanding positional size. Probably a two long term but is a good enough ball handler and distributor to play the point. Impressive how low to the ground his handle is. Hard to turnover. It also makes his sudden and explosive elevation even more difficult to defend. Thick upper body that sheds defenders on penetration. Uses elevation on a fundamentally sound jump shot that is particularly effective in the mid range.

[player_tooltip player_id='3594590' first='Alex' last='Campbell'] 6-0 2028 Assumption College Catholic While Kromah had the wing spot locked down for Rise Up Elite. Campbell more than capably manned the point. Built like tank, the bulky point guard excels on the defensive end. Does this with mixture of good instincts, quick hands, and old fashioned hard work. Offensively is a good ball handler with plenty of quickness. On the rare occasion that his team run offense (so many points off turnovers) Campbell gets his squad into sets quicky and efficiently. Like his backcourt mate Kromah, difficult to turnover as he plays with a low center of gravity.

[player_tooltip player_id='3568992' first='Brady' last='Kohlmann'] 6-1 2028 New Lothrup Flint area Shoebox Elite was minus there starting point guard this weekend due to injury. Kohlmann stepped into that void in an opening win against West Michigan's Phenom Elite. With good size for a point was able to see over the defense to find open teammates. Is also a good ball handler. However, appears to be true scoring guard and showed good touch from beyond the arc. Has smooth effortless release that he gets off quickly. Should form a good 2028 duo in the regular season with Shoebox teammate [player_tooltip player_id='3593886' first='Ofori' last='Clolinger'] who also played well on Saturday.

[player_tooltip player_id='2977599' first='Donovan' last='Clark'] 6-2 2028 Detroit Loyola First caught Clark with his regular season squad at a team camp last June. At that point I thought he showed potential as athletic four man. He has not grown as much physically as I thought he would. Despite that, I don't think his development has stalled at all. Showed the ability the take his game out the perimeter. Shows an improved first step on penetration. Seeks out contact on drives as he still has the upper body of power forward. Has a soft touch around the basket to go along with explosive elevation. Will need to improve his ball handling and range on the perimeter to fully transition to the wing. Has plenty of time to do so and already has shown improvement in these areas. Has long tested himself competitively and continues to play up an age group with the [program_tooltip program_id='2948714' first='Motor' last='City Dragons']

[player_tooltip player_id='3566895' first='Noah' last='Williams'] 6-8 2029 Grand Rapids Union (pictured) A 2029 playing up an age group. Williams needs the disclaimer that bigs develop later than guards and wings. Williams is far from a finished product. However, he is blessed with some intriguing long term physical upside. The first and most obvious is the size. Pushing 6-9 and looks like he still has room to grow. Has a wide frame with a thick lower base. Should thin out as he ages, but I doubt he loses the strength in his lower body. Isn't the quickest player from basket to basket. But I wouldn't say he is a stationary player and looked fine laterally. Showed decent hands and was not timid offensively. While not shy, was slightly mechanical in the post. That is not uncommon in a player this young and big. Competed hard and showed some fight (appropriate level) after a teammate was injured on a hard foul.
