Fresno, CA - This past Friday, June 19th, and Saturday, June 20th, Clovis West hosted its annual Nike Summer Shootout at the Eagles Nest. The two-day event featured teams from the Fresno/Clovis area, with games played in a showcase format. I was there in person for Day 1 only, and watched 3 great games featuring Clovis West, Garza, Central East, and San Joaquin Memorial. This article looks at 9 standout rising upperclassmen (classes 2027 and 2028) that played well at the Summer Shootout. This article will be followed by a look at the top 5 underclassmen. In this article you will find the following information: players name, height, position, school, my personal stats, and their skill sets. The players are listed in alphabetical order, not ranked order, and we begin with the new Golden Eagles, [player_tooltip player_id='3566347' first='Von' last='Bibioff'].

2027 [player_tooltip player_id='3566347' first='Von' last='Bibioff'] (6'1 | CG) - Clovis West (Fresno)

The 6-foot-1 combo guard can score from 3-levels, is an underrated facilitator, and will provide the young Golden Eagles with the veteran play and skill to accommodate the talented roster. Bibioff has dynamic handles, shifty moves to keep his defender off balance, uses the crossover, hesitation, step-back, behind-cross, and toss-cross to create separation from his defender, has a great burst of speed off the bounce, is a creative scorer at the basket, using reverse and up-and-under lay-ups, as well as the floater to score over height in the paint, and is accurate with the jumper off the dribble from the mid-range to the 3-point line with good body control in the air. Bibioff is a good positional rebounder, looks to push the pace in the open court, and has the court vision to find open teammates off the drive and kick pass, up the court off the glass, or to open shooters cross-court with precision. His arrival to Clovis West will be one that is mutually beneficial.

2028 Hunter Bradford (6'6 | PF) - Clovis West (Fresno)

The 6-foot-6 power forward is relentless on the glass, is a physical and athletic presence in the paint, and makes good reads from the forward position. Bradford had two solid showings at the Nike Summer Shootout, with 7 points and 5 rebounds in each game, and non-stop energy when on the court, diving for loose balls or grappling with opponents to secure the jump ball. Bradford gets great positioning to seal his defender off, goes and gets the rebound, gets points off the put-back, limits opponents to single shot possessions, and blocks/alters shots in the paint. Bradford has nice touch on shots around the basket, looks to post-up and use the spin-move to get by his defender, makes timely dives to the basket out of the pick and roll action, sealing off his man to get open for catch and score opportunities. Bradford outlets the ball quickly, gets up the court, and looks to receive passes up the court for the transition bucket.

2027 Carter Cabiero (5'9 | SG) - Justin Garza (Fresno)

The 5-foot-9 shooting guard can score in volume, has limitless range from beyond the arc, and helps space the floor to create driving lanes for teammates to attack, making the defense contract. Cabiero has established himself as one of the premier 3-point shooters in the Section, as was evident on Day 1 at the Nike Summer Shootout, where he would connect on 3 threes for 11 points against Clovis West, followed by five more threes, including the game-winner, for a total of 17 points against San Joaquin Memorial. Cabiero has great movement off the ball, using off-ball screens, keeps weaving through the defense to create separation from his defender, squares his body up when he gets to his shot spots, has a quick but smooth release on the jumper off the catch with the arc to shoot over taller defenders, and can catch fire from beyond the arc to score in volume with the 3-ball off the catch. Cabiero uses his superb shooting to draw defenders out, uses the pump-fake to get by his defender, and attacks the driving lanes to find open teammates or use the floater to score in the paint.

2028 Dasani Davis (6'3 | PG) - Central East (Fresno)

The 6-foot-3 point guard has dynamic handles, shifty moves to shake his defender, can score from 3-levels, and has shown to be more accurate from beyond the arc this Summer. Davis had a strong showing against his former school in Clovis West, as he would drop 20 points, connecting on 4 threes, to go with 5 rebounds, 3 steals, and a block in the loss to the Golden Eagles. Davis keeps the ball on a string to survey the floor, uses the crossover, toss-cross, hesitation, step-back, behind-cross, and spin-move to get his defender off balance, has the body control and accuracy on the jumper from the mid-range to the 3-point line off the bounce, uses his long strides and shifty movement to get by his initial defender and into the paint, and is a creative scorer around the basket, using the Euro-step, reverse, and up-and-under lay-ups, along with the floater to score over height in the paint. Davis has the wingspan, timing and instincts, quick hands, and lateral movement to stay in front of his opponent, and generate turnovers by jumping passing lanes, deflecting passes, or poking the ball out. Davis has the court vision to find open teammates, is a good positional rebounder to push the pace, and has really improved his efficiency from beyond the arc.

2027 [player_tooltip player_id='2954272' first='Sier' last='Harbin'] (6'3 | PG) - Central East (Fresno) - featured in picture

The 6-foot-3 lead guard controls the pace and flow of the game, can score the ball from 3-levels, and is a physical player with the skill set to make him a tough guard for any defender. Harbin, the D2 Section Championship Player of the Game, was in his bag on Day 1 of the Nike Summer Shootout, as he would end with a game-high 25 points, connecting on a pair of threes, and showing his ability to get to his spots and get the shots he wanted without much resistance. Harbin has elite handles, keeps the dribble alive to probe the defense, alters the dribble from high to low to keep his defender guessing, uses the crossover, hesitation, spin-move, wrap-behind, toss-cross, and between-cross to create separation from his defender, hunts his jump shot from the mid-range to the 3-point line, with accuracy and body control off the bounce, is a crafty scorer around the basket, using the Euro-step, reverse, and spin-move lay-ups to evade rim protectors, or has the strength to absorb and score through contact in the paint. Harbin is active on the boards, looks to push the ball off the glass, has the court vision to find players up the court, off the drive and kick pass, to the diver out of the pick and roll action, or the dump off pass when the defense collapses on him.

2027 [player_tooltip player_id='2955798' first='Spencer' last='Kubit'] (6' | SG) - Clovis West (Fresno)

The 6-foot shooting guard has limitless range from beyond the arc, has solid handles, and great off-ball movement to get looks from deep. Kubit had a strong showing in Clovis West's tough fought win over Garza of Fresno, as he would connect on 5 threes to score a team-high 15 points. Kubit has fluid off-ball movement, uses off-ball screens, down-screens, weaves through the defense to keep his defender constantly moving, gets to his shot spots, and lights out with the 3-ball off the catch, being a threat as soon as he crosses halfcourt. Kubit is an opportunistic defender, with quick hands and good footwork, where he deflects passes or pokes the ball out to get out in transition. Kubit's ability to space the floor with the 3-ball with consistency will be a valued asset for Clovis West, to open up the floor and lanes for his teammates to attack off the wing.

2027 Melkon Oganesyan (6'6 | PF) - Justin Garza (Fresno)

The 6-foot-6 forward is relentless on the glass, alters shots in the paint, as well as on the perimeter shot, and has nice touch on finishes at the basket. Oganesyan had two impressive showings at the Nike Summer Shootout, going for 7 points and 9 rebounds in the loss to Clovis West, followed by 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals in the win over San Joaquin of Fresno. Oganesyan has the lengthy and athletic build, moves fluidly on the court, seals off his opponent and goes after the ball coming off the rim, controls the boards on both ends of the court, gets points off put-backs with good body control through contact, finds holes in the defense in the dunker spot or the top of the restricted areas for easy catch and score attempts, and has good timing on the dive to the basket out of the pick and roll action. Oganesyan runs the floor well in the open court, gets ahead of the defense to score in transition, and has quick hands to deflect passes or jump passing lanes.

2027 [player_tooltip player_id='2932601' first='Ty' last='Schalk'] (6'2 | CG) - San Joaquin Memorial (Fresno)

The 6-foot-2 combo guard has the pace and poise to orchestrate the offense, is one of the premier shooters in the Section, if not the state, and has developed a 3-level scoring arsenal. Schalk had a stellar showing on Day 1 of the Nike Summer Shootout, where he would finish with 22 points, connecting on 4 threes, to go along with 4 assists and 2 steals. Schalk has a tight handle on the ball, keeps the dribble alive to survey the floor, has added to his handles and moves, using the behind-cross, hesitation, step-back, crossover, toss-cross, and between-cross to create space from his defender, hunts the jumper with accuracy and body control from the mid-range to the 3-point line off the dribble, and is a creative scorer around the basket, using the floater, reverse, spin-move, and Euro-step lay-ups to evade rim protectors. Schalk has good court vision and decision making with the ball in his hands, finds teammates off the drive and kick pass, to the diver out of the pick and roll action,m or up the court in transition. Although his game has grown leaps and bounds over the last year, he is still most deadly when he is moving off the ball, getting to his shot spots, and firing from beyond the arc off the catch, with accuracy and a smooth shot.

2028 Josiah Wilson (6'2 | CG) - Justin Garza (Fresno)

The 6-foot-2 combo guard is a physical and athletic player that can score from 3-levels, is an elite shot maker, and is a high-level shot-blocker in the paint, as well as on the perimeter. Wilson was sensational on Day 1 of the Nike Summer Shootout, displaying his ability to knock down shots from various spots on the floor at a high degree of difficulty, with games of 22 points and 4 blocks, followed by 28 points and 3 blocks in games against Clovis West and San Joaquin respectively, connecting on 6 threes over the two games. Wilson has dynamic handles, keeps the ball on a string to survey the defense, uses the crossover, step-back, fadeaway, hesitation, behind-cross, and spin-move to get his defender off balance, has great body control and elite bounce to lift on the jumper, with accuracy from the mid-range to the 3-point line, and is a crafty scorer around the basket, with the Euro-step, reverse, and up-and-under lay-ups, as well as the floater to score over height in the paint. Wilson has active hands, great instincts and timing, and quick footwork to stay in front of opposing players, gets into their dribbling space, jumps passing lanes, deflects passes, or poke the ball out to generate steals, and has great timing and gets off the floor quickly to block shots in the paint, as well as the lateral quickness to alter jumpers on the close out. Wilson is a player to keep an eye on this coming weekend at Cali Live Scholastic event in NorCal.
