June 4th-6th I attended the annual Best in Basketball Summer Invitational. It is the premier warm up event for the prestigious Section-7 with 20 Section-7 weekend teams plus others who have a chance to qualify for the weekend.

I watched every team 2-3 times and came up with many different categories to place each prospect.

Here were the Top Passers

[player_tooltip player_id='2878042' first='Davon' last='Darby'] Red Mountain

An almost throwback point guard. He is a great passer with bail out passes and incredible open court speed to jet past his defenders and then find a teammate. He will score with quick bursts, blow by layups, he has a tight crossover into a three with range, as he is extending it as he ages. His competitiveness is like his brother; always bringing toughness to the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id='2407206' first='Cameron' last='Hurt'] Pinnacle

A real point guard with speed in the open court and a very tight handle with either hand in close spaces. He will find the cutter, drop it off to a big or find the shooter. He will score with catch threes, offensive rebound tip-ins and has quick hands on defense to collect steals.

[player_tooltip player_id='2109028' first='Malachi' last='Kaffey'] AZ Compass Prep

A scoring lead guard will make passes up the court and can handle heavy ball pressure. He will drive and kick it and score. He will shoot it from the perimeter and he is quick to the basket.

[player_tooltip player_id='2552787' first='Landen' last='Martineau'] Casteel

A pure point guard with a very strong frame. He will drive and kick it to his teammates and it is very hard to take the ball away from him. He scores it with deep threes off the catch or pull, mid-range pull-up off the dribble and speed dribble drives to the basket. He is very competitive on the ball defensively.

[player_tooltip player_id='3625613' first='Domino' last='Moore'] Hamilton

A real point guard who will drive and kick it or thread the needle to a teammate. He is always surveying the scene keeping his head up and dribble alive. He is one of the better passers in the class and will score. He can shoot it from deep and give a hard ball fake and shoot it with mid-range pull-ups.

[player_tooltip player_id='2759167' first='Taylan' last='Owens'] Canyon View

A talented scoring point guard who can make players around him better. He only played one day but showed what he can do with tough downhill takes with a very quick first step. He can shoot it from the perimeter and will find teammates in stride for assists and handles heavy ball pressure well with his speed and tight handle.

[player_tooltip player_id='2886380' first='Remy' last='Rose'] Carl Hayden

A bigger real point guard makes the game easy for his teammates. He will drive and kick it with either hand with some needle threaders. He fills it up quickly with floaters, deep threes off the catch, mid-range pull-ups and can split defenders and finish. He is a very good rebounder for a guard and on-ball defender.

[player_tooltip player_id='2396185' first='Zathan' last='Ruffin'] NVCA (Pictured)

A true Swiss Army Knife affects the game on both sides of the court. He is a great rebounder and passer and will play multiple positions for the small school. He will rip thru, hit the three off the catch, highlight dunks on the break and he is a great passer as he will throw players open with perfect anticipation.

[player_tooltip player_id='2894935' first='Kendell' last='Stapleton'] Chandler

A super fast real point guard who just gets it. The ball is on a string for him and he goes by defenders with ease. He will throw up the court passes, drive and kick it and thread the needle. He will collect steals in the passing lanes and score with tough shots in traffic or get fouled.

[player_tooltip player_id='2427680' first='Conner' last='Tefteller'] Campo Verde

A pure point guard is a traditional table setter with drive and kicks and changes speeds really well. He reads the floor quickly like a QB and throws the dime. He will score with threes off the pull or catch, quick bursts into the lane with and-1's in traffic. He also has quick hands on defense.
