Prep Hoops Live, the live period event of the Prep Hoops Circuit took place this past weekend in the greater Chicago area. I was assigned to the younger divisions way out in Batavia. Not too far from Wisconsin state line. Unsurprisingly, a fair amount of Cheese bred players stood out. Following are five that caught my eye.

[player_tooltip player_id='2618953' first='Javon' last='Miller'] 6-3 De Pere Big and physical wing who played well for [program_tooltip program_id='2078394' first='Team' last='1848'] 16U. Good shooter who had plenty of size to shoot over defenders. Had a smooth and well schooled release with little wasted motion. Had the bulk to take defenders down the block. Despite a bigger frame. Moved very well and was light on his feet. Good lateral quickness and competed hard on the defensive end.

[player_tooltip player_id='3019043' first='Collin' last='Keraka'] 6-5 Beloit Memorial Long and lanky prospect with extreme length. Like many prospects in this cohort. Was slightly mechanical in his movements at times as he appeared to be still growing into his frame. Most of these “movements” confines of half court sets. In transition was a fluid athlete who ran the court well. Showed a soft touch around the basket. Had a good point guard (see below) setting him up for many of these looks Led his squad with 15 points in a Sunday victory over Illinois' No Limit. Very slender frame and will need to add weight to take the next step in his development.

[player_tooltip player_id='2849651' first='Caden' last='Weston'] 5-7 Beloit Memorial Diminutive point was outstanding on Saturday night. Playing with Keraka on Midwest Tarheels Select. Plays with a low center of gravity and is difficult to turnover. Also showed next level change of direction ability. Could also start and stop on dime. Devastating first step that allowed him to get to the basket often. Fierce competitor who ran a little hot at times. Not a bad thing as you need a little edge sometimes as a sub 5-10 prospect Good passer especially off of the live dribble.

[player_tooltip player_id='3636557' first='Jorden' last='Calvert']6-1 La Crosse Central (pictured) If this was a “superlative” article. Calvert would get the nod as the top passer of the weekend. Put together a pretty good passing reel on Saturday afternoon. Looks aways, behind the backs, and just basic bounce passes. The [program_tooltip program_id='2075610' first='La' last='Crosse Elevate'] guard had it all working. The highlights are nice but it takes more than just creativity to pull them off. You need court vision ans spatial awareness to pull them off. Calvert had all of it. Not a small point guard either. Big bodied with broad shoulders and stood over six feet tall. Good ball handler and appears to be a natural point. Not just a big kid playing out of necessity. Also showed good elevation for size and the ability to finish above the rim.

Class of 2029

[player_tooltip player_id='2516037' first='Michael' last='Chapman'] 5-10 Green Bay West Compact guard led [program_tooltip program_id='2078394' first='Team' last='1848'] 15U to an undefeated record on the weekend. Already has a consummate point guard game. Got his team into their sets quickly and played well in two man situations. Efficiency marks much of his game. Excellent ball handler. However the ball doesn't stick in his hands long. Not many wasted calories in his dibbles. Plays downhill and seems always in motion towards the basket. Crafty finisher around the rim with both hands.
