Havoc in the Heartland 2026: Saturday Standouts- 15u

The class of 2029 showed up and showed out over the weekend. These young men really stood out at the Havoc in the Heartland tournament.    After watching Cole play Saturday afternoon, I discovered a new facet of his game. Cole has become a legitimate play-maker. He exclusively played the point guard position and played it effectively. The first time I watched Cole play, he was strictly a scorer. I never had a chance to see him play the position of facilitator. His passing was crisp and on the money. The majority of his assists led to easy scores for Progeny 15u teammates. The shooting aspect of his game has not changed. He continues to be a threat from behind the three-point line. Cole finished the game with three conversions from long distance. He's also improved his ball handling. There were moments in the game where he beat defenders off the dribble, attacked the paint or dished off passes to others. Cole is a player who showed he's capable of being effective at both guard positions. He demonstrated the type of leadership and composure needed to succeed in the game of basketball.     Xander is a shifty point guard who has an uncanny ability to score. Whether it was beating defenders to the basket, scoring from mid-range or knocking down threes, Xander was a serious obstacle for the Progeny 15u-2 defense. He's an excellent facilitator who finished the game as the team's assists leader. Xander has a knack for hitting teammates with the perfect passes. He also showed great leadership by communicating with other Legacy Ice players on the defensive end of the court. Xander made it a priority to have teammates in the correct defensive sets. I can't count the amount of times I watched him score tough baskets through contact. Xander was one of the toughest guards I saw over the weekend. On defense, he jumped passing lanes and applied great man-to-man pressure on opposing guards. Xander is a fearless player who I expect to be even better as time goes on.     Jacob has always been a great scorer who does it in a variety of ways. Every time I watch him play, he improves at a different area of his game. The last time he added rebounding to go along with his scoring prowess. On Saturday, it was passing and play-making. Jacob made a number of plays that led to positive outcomes for Legacy Ice. The majority of his assists led to high percentage shots for his teammates. One in particular, was a slick bounce pass to a player cutting to the basket. He seems to be more of a willing passer as compared to his middle school years. As I said, Jacob can score the ball. He has a quick first step that allows him to easily beat opponents to the basket. When it comes to shooting, Jacob excels at using shifty moves to effectively get his shot off. He's capable of getting in a groove and converting shots from mid or long range. I see the growth of his game and it is awesome!! Jacob is well on his way to becoming a complete player. I look forward to keeping track of his progress in the coming years.      A speedy point guard who effectively attacked opposing defenses throughout the tournament. Kamden is a great ball handler who made plays all over the court. He easily broke down the Fire Club Basketball defense and dished out assists to his teammates. Anytime he found himself isolated with a defender, Kamden easily blew by them and attacked the paint. This led to him scoring a variety of acrobatic lay-ups or completing flashy passes. He's a solid perimeter shooter who effectively knocked down mid-range shots and threes when he had the opportunity. On defense, he was great at applying pressure on opposing guards. Kamden finished the game with multiple steals and numerous transition scores. I expect him to raise his game to a higher level as the AAU season progresses.     CJ is what I call a “glue guy.” He had a knack for being effective all over the court. Whether it was scoring, initiating the offense, grabbing rebounds, assisting teammates or defending, CJ always found ways of making a difference. He was great at handling the ball and making plays on offense. The majority of his assists led to easy scores for other [program_tooltip program_id='2287635' first='Indy' last='Hoops Academy'] 15u players. There were countless times he grabbed rebounds, pushed the pace up-court and scored in transition. CJ is also a great shooter. He knocked down multiple threes and scored numerous times on short perimeter jump-shots. Defensively, CJ was all about pressure. He stalked opposing players and forced them into turnovers. The steals he generated led to positive plays for [program_tooltip program_id='2287635' first='Indy' last='Hoops Academy'] 15u. CJ is an awesome team player who does whatever it takes to win games.     Liam was great at handling the basketball, getting to the basket and knocking down perimeter shots. He's a fearless player who always looked to score. I appreciated the aggression he showed throughout the duration of the game. It didn't matter who guarded him, Liam was on a mission to score and make positive plays. Whenever he attacked the paint, Liam looked to either pass or score. Some of his assists were on the flashy side. There was one that stood out above the rest. Liam drove down the lane and hit the Center with a no-look bounce pass. The big man easily scored. There was a sequence in the game when Liam knocked down consecutive threes using a variety of step-back dribbling moves. These ball handling skills allowed him to gain the space he needed to get his shot off. Liam is a scrappy player who does whatever it takes to help Progeny 15u-1 win games.                                                                                                                                             Alex is a tough combo guard who is capable of playing both positions at a high level. He's a great facilitator. The majority of his assists were converted into easy points. His teammates were always in the right place, at the right time. When he moved to the shooting guard position, he became an aggressive scorer. Alex easily beat his opponents off the dribble, attacked the basket or scored on floaters in the lane. He's a slick ball handler who used a variety of dribbling moves to create for himself or others. Alex has an excellent mid-range attack. I watched him knock down perimeter shots on multiple occasions. Despite being closely guarded, Alex created the space he needed to get his shot off. He's a tenacious defender who pressed opponents into committing turnovers. Alex is a promising all around player who could become elite in the future.     Nolan showcased his skills for all to see Sunday afternoon. Whether it was playing big in the post, driving to the basket, knocking down perimeter shots or scoring in transition, Nolan was effective from everywhere on the court. Whenever he grabbed offensive rebounds, Nolan immediately put them back up around the basket. On some occasions, this led to him being fouled and converting three-point play opportunities. Everything he did was off sheer hustle and determination. When he had opposing players in one-on-one situations, Nolan beat them off the dribble and effectively attacked the basket. I appreciated the energy he showed throughout the game. Nolan played like a person who was determined to win at all cost. He's an excellent all around player who could be vital to [program_tooltip program_id='3599658' first='Grand' last='Park Premier 2029 White']'s success this summer.
