GASO Madness: All Gas, No Quit Class of 2026/2027

GASO Madness showcased a floor for not just bucket getters, but hustle guys who also gave it their energy and all when on the floor. They competed on both ends and showcased tremendous heart and passion playing the game they love. These players constantly gave 100% and made sure their impact was known, especially on defense. Let's examine the skillsets and versatility of these prospects who made their way onto my summer watch list.    Recently reclassifying to 2027, Mike has been on my radar for a few years now and he continues to impress with his hustle and relentless energy. Uwalaka plays for [program_tooltip program_id='2075520' first='Houston' last='Raptors'] Benjamin, and he constantly knows where to be on the floor at all times. His infectious defense motivates his team to cause turnovers, and this swings the momentum towards the Raptors continuously. Uwalaka uses underrated athleticism and IQ to crash the glass on both ends as a hybrid guard/wing and uses explosive ability to get to the rim, as well as drawing loose ball fouls and being able to guard multiple positions.     Mario was one of my top standouts in attendance this weekend and he showed that he can impact the box score in a variety of ways whether it be getting buckets, securing boards, dishing assists, or protecting the basket. Wooden displayed a wide range of skills and I noticed that he was comfortable no matter what position he was playing on the floor. Mario was also vocal on defense and made opponents uncomfortable with the ball against him in isolation situations.     Brandin Phelps made his presence known by getting consistent buckets in the paint and playing to his strengths with impressive footwork and smooth mechanics on his post-game. Brandin has a strong frame and enough IQ to take advantage of mismatches and either score over the top of people or pass out to an open shooter. His knowledge of filling lanes in transition was consistent, and this allowed him to capitalize on easy looks at the basket.     Allen was an all-around presence for Texas Prime who scored from all three levels, showed versatility with speed and leaping ability, and made winning plays. Natayvious made his presence known from all parts of the court, shooting threes, blocking shots, and getting buckets from the midrange and paint. His defense was fundamental and he know how to get critical stops and come down with rebounds, limiting opponents' offensive chances at scoring. He can function at almost any position 1 through 5 and he can certainly guard every position as well.     Colin Griffith provided a smooth blend of shooting and under the basket finishing for United Ballers 17u. Colin showed that he can be counted on to handle the ball under full court pressure but also protect the post on defense. When the defense left him open from three-point range, he let it fly and knocked down the shot. Colin has good awareness off the pick and roll going to the basket and finishing through contact, as well as spacing the floor with his shooting from range.
