College Commitment – Liam Rigney (2026 Lake Oswego)
When it came down to it, Liam Rigney was looking for the chance to make an impact. The sharp-shooting 6-foot-6 swingman from Lake Oswego had a number of different opportunities at different levels and there was no question he knew he would be successful at any place he went. But one school offered everything he was looking for so this past week he decided to pull the trigger and commit to starting his college career on the East Coast with Holy Cross.
"This opportunity came up when I went their camp last summer and the coaches liked my game," Rigney said. "I am starting as a walk-on because they are limited on scholarships but they have the confidence in me to be a scholarship guy past year one. I had a few other D-I opportunities but I thought I could have a chance playing earlier in the Patriot League. I love the school and ultimately it came down to their prestigious academics. I want to end up on Wall Street and I think Holy Cross will help me get there. It's far away which will take a lot to get used but I'm excited to be a Crusader!"
Obviously coming in as a walk-on, nothing is guaranteed. But Rigney feels he's got what it takes to fit in and is ready to work on whatever it takes to earn his minutes on the court. "I love the coaches and the style they play," Righey said. "They really value the 3 ball which is my strong suit. They like position-less players and think I could be someone who could stretch the floor. I also have a lot of my family on the East coast. I think the Patriot League is a good level that I can eventually be successful at."
"I want to keep getting more athletic and continuing to put on more muscle," he continued. "I want to get better at defense being able to move quicker laterally so I can end up being able to guard a college 2. I want to keep working on my midrange game and make sure I can continue to knock down the 3 at a high clip. Mostly just working more on shooting off the dribble."
Rigney moves to the D-I level after a decorated career at Lake Oswego, one in which he earned First Team All-TRL and All-State honors after averaging 21.6 points and 6.4 rebounds and tallying over 1000 points in his high school career. There are many great memories for sure. "Just the relationships I've built," Rigney said. "The team bonds I've had over the years were the strongest. All of the people who came before me taught me what it meant to be a Laker and looked after me - I want to do it for those people."
Our congratulations go out to Rigney and his family on his commitment.
