Orange County, CA - Last weekend, April 24th - 26th, I attended Session 1 of the Adidas 3SSB Circuit hosted at Open Gym Premier Ladera. The event started on Friday morning and wrapped up Sunday afternoon, featuring 3 days of high-level basketball with teams and players from all parts of the country taking the court for some much anticipated match-ups. This article takes a look at 8 standout wing/forwards from the Class of 2027. I will also be looking at standout guards, wings, forwards, and centers from the classes of 2027 - 2029. In this article you will find the following information: players name, height, position, school, club team, how they performed, and their skill sets. The players are listed in alphabetical order, not ranked order, and we begin with Victor Aborowa.

Victor Aborowa (6'8 | WF) - Andrews Osborne Academy/Indiana Elite 17s

Aborowa is a lengthy and athletic player that can score in volume from beyond the arc, which he displayed at Session 1 averaging 16.5 points, 6 rebounds, and shot 60+% from the 3-point line, connecting on 11 over the 4 games played. The 6-foot-8 wing/forward has the handles to create off the perimeter, uses the crossover, hesitation, and spin-move to generate space from his defender, has the length and lift to connect on the jumper with accuracy from the mid-range to the 3-point line off the bounce, and is a crafty scorer around the basket with touch and feel around the rim. Aborowa moves well off the ball, gets to his shot spots, is effective with the 3-ball off the catch, controls the glass, and can outlet and get up the court, as well as push the ball up the court himself to initiate transition play. Quick twitch off the dribble, has body control on the baseline and pull-up middy through contact, and should see his national status increase over the next few months if he continues to shoot the three at a high clip with his size and build.

Baboucarr Ann (6'5 | WF) - Maple Grove Senior/D1 Minnesota 17s

Ann is an athletic, lengthy, and skilled player that displayed his high-level two-way skill-set during Session 1 at Ladera OGP, averaging 10 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists per game. The 6-foot-5 wing/slasher keeps the ball on a string to survey the defense, uses the crossover, hesitation, and spin-moves to create space from his defender, has the court vision to make tough reads in tight windows off the drive and kick or up the court off the defensive rebound, and has good body control to score through contact on the mid-range jumper, using the spin-into the pull-up jumper, as well as the step-back, fadeaway, and traditional pull-up middy with the bounce and length to shoot over most perimeter defenders. Ann has the Euro-step, spin-move, and reverse lay-ups in his bag to evade shot blockers at the basket, has active hands, the long wingspan, and timing to deflect passes, jump passing lanes, poke the ball out, or alter perimeter shots to turn defense to offense, and is effective with the 3-ball off the dribble or the catch.

Alonzo Archbold (6'8 | WF) - The Hotchkiss School/New Heights 17s

Archbold is a physical and athletic player that can spread the floor from beyond the arc, plays well on or off the ball, and showed his impact on the glass with an average of 7 rebounds per game, to go along with 6 points, and an impressive double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds in a win over Dream Vision 17s. The 6-foot-8 wing/forward is great on the boards, gets put-backs and second chance scoring opportunities off the glass, as well as limits opponents to single shot possessions, with the handle to push the ball up the court, and the court awareness to find players ahead in stride for transition buckets. Archbold was effective with the 3-ball off the catch, with good off ball movement to get to his shot spots, and his size pulls bigger players away from the basket to open up driving lanes. Good size to score through contact when attacking the basket and the skill and touch to operate from the wing.

Christian Baynes (6'4 | WF) - Fayetteville Academy/Upward Stars 17s

Baynes has a strong build, the skills to play in the paint, as well as from the wing, can space the floor from beyond the arc, and had his best game in Upward Stars final game of the weekend, as he would go for 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals in the win over Phenom United. The 6-foot-4 wing/forward is relentless on the boards, has good touch on the put-back off the glass, uses the crossover, spin-move off the back-down, and hesitation to get his defender off balance, has the physical build to attack his opponent down the lane or off the baseline, and can score it through contact around the basket with good body control. Baynes showed good off ball movement, got to his shot spot, and was effective on the 3-ball off the catch to space the floor.

Vincent Cronin (6'8 | WF) - Edina/D1 Minnesota 17s

Cronin is a physical and athletic player that can light it up from beyond the arc, and had several dazzling dunks in Session 1 to display his elite bounce, as he would average 10 points and 5 rebounds over the 4 games played. The 6-foot-8 wing/forward has good footwork, back-to-the-basket moves, good feel to spin-off or fade away from his defender, and has great touch on shots around the basket, using the up-and-under and reverse lay-ups, as well as the float-hook when spinning off his defender in the paint. Cronin has active hands, a lengthy wingspan, and good timing to deflect passes, block shots in the paint and on the perimeter, jump passing lanes, and looks to get out in transition where he can take flight. Cronin has the handles to create off the wing, has a good burst off the bounce, is effective with the pull-up jumper with good body control on the spin-into the middy, and moves fluidly off the ball to get open looks, where he is accurate with the 3-ball off the catch. Cronin had one of the more impressive plays on Day 2 against Slow Grind Elite, as he ripped through his defender, saw the lane open up, and attacked off the perimeter for the power dunk in the half-court setting, showing off his versatility.

Max Cui (6'9 | WF) - Palos Verdes/CA Gold 17s

Cui displayed good touch on shots inside the 3-point line, a variety of moves to score in the paint, and put up solid numbers throughout Session 1, with averages of 11 points and nearly 5 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-9 wing/forward keeps pressure on the boards, has good timing and touch on put-backs off the glass, runs the floor well in the open court to get ahead of the defense, and alters shots in the paint. Cui has the handle to push the ball off the glass, can create from the top of the key or off entry passes to the post, has good footwork and back-to-the-basket moves, with body control to score off the spin-move into the lay-up, the Euro-step down the lane to evade opposing shot blockers, and was effective with the face-up jumper from the mid-post.

[player_tooltip player_id='2838662' first='Brandon' last='Hahn'] (6'7 | WF) - Granada/Lakeshow 17s

Hahn has been one of the intriguing and trending NorCal prospects to start off the club season with his versatility on the offensive end, his ability to light it up from beyond the arc, all of which he had on display at Session 1, with averages of 20.5 points and 7 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-7 wing/forward is highly efficient with the 3-ball off the bounce or the catch, with use of the crossover, hesitation, and coming off-ball screens to create space from his defender, as well as fluid off ball movement, understanding of floor spacing, the size and positioning to square up his body, and a quick release to get the ball up. Hahn has great court vision, makes reads from the top of the key to teammates cutting off the ball, from the low-post position to teammates cutting down the lane, and the precision to find open players cross-court with precision. Hahn is active on the boards on both ends, has nice touch on the floater when attacking from the perimeter, and quick hands to poke the ball out or rip it from his opponent to turn defense to offense.

Joshua Leonard (6'7 | WF) - Wilson/Upward Stars 17s

Leonard was one of the more known national prospects at Session 1 and is playing in the 17u Division for the second year in a row, as he played up last season with Upwards Stars. The 6-foot-7 wing-forward is the focal point of the team this season, as a true 17u prospect, and he ended the weekend with a monster performance and showed why he deserves to be one of 3SSBs featured players this Spring and Summer. Upward Stars had their final game during the evening session of day 2, likely having to fly out early on Sunday morning, and I am grateful I had their game against Phenom United circled as one to watch, with Leonard putting up a monster double-double to help lead his team to a win, with 33 points, 16 rebounds, and 2 blocks, with averages of 20 points and 8.5 rebounds per game for the weekend. Leonard is a physical and skilled forward that has the handles to create from the top of the key, uses the crossover and the hesitation to get his defender off balance, has the force to attack and score through contact around the basket, as well as the moves to create shots to evade shot blockers with the Euro-step, reverse lay-up, and spin-move to generate space from his defender and easy buckets at the rim. Leonard uses the back-cut, v-cuts, and off ball movement to find openings in the defense, and seal off his defender to get open looks on entry passes into the paint where he has the quick twitch to catch and turn, catching his defender off guard. Elite rebounder, quick leaper to score off the glass, and is effective with the mid-range jumper.
