2028 Rankings Update: Class 1A and 2A Newcomer Guards

Brown is a talented guard who can play with or without the ball in his hands, averaging 9.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.5 steals per game as a sophomore for the Falcons. He's a streaky, but capable, shooting threat from distance who is at his best when he's in attack mode.     Clarkson is coming off a very productive sophomore season in which he averaged 10.5 points and 2.9 assists on 48-42-50 shooting splits. He buried 51 3-pointers as a sophomore, showing the ability to shoot it off both the dribble and the catch effectively.     A volume scorer who uses his speed to his advantage on both ends of the floor, Scott averaged 20.8 points, 5.2 assists, and 5.5 steals per game for the Demons as a sophomore. His quick hands and lateral movement allow him to cause all sorts of chaos defensively.     Curley didn't get much varsity run for the Warriors as a sophomore but figures to be a significant part of the rotation over the next few years. He's an intelligent guard who can play with or without the ball in his hands, shooting it well from distance and creating quality looks for his teammates.     Helgeland is a stat-sheet stuffing guard with great size and length at 6-4, length that he uses to impact the game on the defensive end (2.5 stocks per game last season) as well as compete on the glass on both ends of the floor. He averaged 8.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists to go with his work on the defensive end.     A quick guard who does a majority of his damage inside the arc, Johanns averaged 12.2 points and 3.4 assists per game as a sophomore for the Saints on nearly 47% shooting. He's not much of a 3-point shooting threat at this point, and he needs to improve at the charity stripe, but he's good in the mid-range and around the rim.     Peck put up big numbers in his sophomore campaign for the Buccaneers, averaging 15.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.8 steals per game, leading the team in scoring, assists, and steals. He likes to play downhill and attack the rim off the dribble both in transition and in the halfcourt.     Welander is a pest on the defensive end, averaging 2.7 steals per game last season, and he uses that tenacity on the defensive end to spark his offense, leading the Indians in scoring at 16.7 points per game.     Another big-time small-school scorer, Steger put up 15.3 points per game last season for the Vikings while also leading the team in assists (4.2). He's a quick, athletic guard who can put constant pressure on teams with his ability to attack off the dribble.     Woodward buried 60 3-pointers last season to lead the Mohawks. He's a talented three-level scoring threat who put up a team-high 14.7 points per game on 43-37-56 shooting splits.     Nielsen led the Lynx in scoring (14.7) and assists (3.1) as a sophomore, emerging as a reliable scoring threat capable of burning teams inside and out. He shot 38.3% from the 3-point line while also showing that he can get downhill.     DeLong is a really good athlete who uses his athleticism to his advantage by getting into the teeth of the defense consistently and either scoring or creating quality looks for his teammates. He averaged 14.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.9 steals per game as a sophomore, leading the Wildcats in a number of categories.     Scott is a fearless rebounder out of his guard spot, averaging a team-best 7.4 rebounds per game despite being listed at just 5-11. He's clearly a really good, tough athlete who doesn't shy away from contact, which was also evident with his 13.9 points on nearly 60% shooting as a sophomore.     Fenton is a pass-first guard who sets his teammates up well and puts them in positions to succeed. He's a crafty guard who changes speeds well to keep defenders off balance, and he's a tough on-ball defender.
