We at Prep Hoops VA recently updated our 2028 rankings, expanding to 100 prospects who we feel are ones to watch in the sophomore class. Here's a look at part two of the prospects from the Richmond area in the rankings.

#43) [player_tooltip player_id='2194721' first='Jabril' last='Scott'] | 6'4” SF | Cristo Rey

Scott is part of a talented but young Cristo Rey team that will make a lot of noise moving forward if they all stick together, and he's one of their more intriguing prospects with his positional size and upside. The 6'4” wing is a big time athlete that uses his athleticism to play above the rim and is a good shot blocker for his position as well, he can score the ball in a variety of ways both on and off the ball, and he's a very good rebounder and defender at his position too.

#46) [player_tooltip player_id='2918922' first='Peyton' last='Hicks'] | 6'3” SG | Matoaca

Hicks has quietly been one of the better young players in the Richmond area over the past two years, and he's got a chance to make a name for himself with coaches this summer with Local Legends NXT Pro. The 6'3” off guard brings a mix of skill and toughness as he can drill it from deep with consistency and range, he gets to spots off the bounce and can make tough shots in the midrange and around the rim, and he's a hard nosed defender and good rebounder for his position too.

#49) [player_tooltip player_id='2918958' first='Elijah' last='Haughton'] | 6'7” PF | Benedictine

Haughton is a bit of project big man, but he's definitely intriguing with his blend of size, athleticism and upside at his age. The 6'7” big man has great length making him a good rim protector and rebounder, he moves well running the floor in transition and switching defensively with his lateral movement, he has good touch around the rim and he's shown the ability to step out and make shots in the midrange area as well.

#70) [player_tooltip player_id='2919030' first='Dillon' last='Murphy'] | 6'5” PF | TPLS

Murphy has had spurts of brilliance in his early career, and he's a very intriguing mismatch type of prospect as he continues to grow and develop over the years. The 6'5” forward is a knock down shooter off the catch and is able to come off of pin downs and through screens and make shots on the move, he has great length to finish at the rim and challenge shots defensively, and as he continues to grow he should fill out and get more athletic too.

#72) [player_tooltip player_id='2546879' first='Pierson' last='Gray'] | 6'6” C | Benedictine

Gray has shown a lot of upside for Benedictine, as the 6'6” big man is a load in the paint and is able to create mismatches with his ability to stretch the floor as well. He has great touch around the rim with both hands, he can use his size to create space and boxes out well to rebound the basketball, and he can step out on the perimeter and knock down shots as a pop man or a trail man.

#79) [player_tooltip player_id='3554602' first='Contee' last='Smithers Jr'] | 6'6” C | Cristo Rey

Smithers is another part of that talented young Cristo Rey core, and while he still has a ways to go development wise he shows a lot of great tools for such a young post prospect. He understands his game and doesn't shy away from being an inside presence that can bang in the paint and score it around the rim, he is a good rebounder on both ends and plays with a good motor, and he shows good touch from the midrange and is a very good free throw shooter too.

#85) [player_tooltip player_id='3319022' first='Bennett' last='Friday'] | 6'6” PF | Freeman

Friday has been very good for Freeman over the past few years, and every time we see him he seems to get better and better and still has a lot of room to improve moving forward. At 6'6” he's active in the paint with a good motor on the glass and challenge shots defensively, he has soft touch at the rim and uses floaters and push shots to avoid shot blockers, he can step out and has good touch out to 18 feet, and he's still just scratching the surface with how good he can be moving forward.

#89) [player_tooltip player_id='2919006' first='Colby' last='Gibbs'] | 6'3” SG | Trinity Episcopal

Gibbs continued to see his role grow with TES his sophomore season, and the 6'3” shooting guard is a guy that can impact the game in a number of different ways. He's a very good shooter who understands spacing and moves well off the ball, he can attack closeouts and get in the paint where he can make plays for himself and others, and he brings great toughness and energy on both ends of the floor as well.

#99) [player_tooltip player_id='2548180' first='Harrison' last='Hazelgrove'] | 6'1” SG | Steward

Hazelgrove showed improvement as a sophomore with Steward, and he's the type of player that can fit multiple roles and find ways to be impactful in spot minutes or in long stretches. He's a very good shooter from deep who can space the floor and knock it down or create advantages because defenders can't leave him, he has great instincts defensively to jump passing lanes and get deflections, and he brings a high motor and great energy to his team that is infectious.
