Bowing out in the first round of the state tournament in a matchup with Regina, Aplington-Parkersburg will have a shot to take another step forward this coming year. Though they lose their leading scorer from this last season, the Falcons return three starters from their run to Des Moines this winter.

One of those three returning starters, lucky for AP, is starting point guard, [player_tooltip player_id='2594659' first='Tyler' last='Wedeking'] who put up 15.5 points and 2.9 assists per game as a sophomore this year. The most consistent shooter from deep on the roster, Wedeking made 38.6% of his threes this season, with more than half of his attempts from the field coming from beyond the arc. Shooting 77.2% from the free throw line, as well, the 5-foot-10 guard made the most of his opportunitites at the line and from three. Assuming his shooting volume goes up in his junior campaign as the full-time, go-to scorer for the Falcons, Wedeking should be expected to be one of the top scoring guards in the Cedar Valley.

A youngster that provided some much-needed size to the AP roster in his first year of high school ball, 2029 center Charlie Wessels finished the season as the Falcons' third-leading scorer and second-leading rebounder. Also the second-most efficient scorer on the squad for the sixth-seeded team in the 2A state tournament, Wessel's play as AP's tallest post-man, standing at 6-foot-5 was crucial. Going forward, his continued growth and development will be massive if they're to continue their recent success in northeast Iowa. This season, he averaged 9.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.7 steals per game while shooting 58.7% from the field.

Junior guard, Wes Shirk and sophomore forward, Cole Brouwer both return next season, as well. The pair combined for 17.3 points and 8.4 rebounds per contest. Like Wessels, their offseason growth will be key for the Falcons, if they want to take make a legitimate jump forward in 2026-27.
