As we have discussed before, the class of 2027 is very talent heavy in the state of Texas. There is an abundance of guards who make their presence felt every time they step on the court, whether it be school basketball or AAU season. In this article, I will cover some 2027 guards who have made an impact on me not just over this year, but this summer during the grassroots season. Without further ado, let's dive into examining their skillsets:

Chase continues to showcase himself week after week as one of the top prospects in the Houston 2027 class. He continues his momentum from the season at Friendswood into the summer running with TJ Ford 3SSB 17u. He knows how to create space for himself and shoot off the dribble from all 3 levels, as well as displaying elite decision making in crunch time. He plays with a great change of pace on offense and can take advantage in pick and roll situations as the ballhandler. He explodes to the rim with athletic ability and can cause turnovers on defense in a hurry.

Dylan displays great instincts on the defensive sides of the ball and can consistently be relied on for stops in clutch situations. One of the most complete two-way guards in the city, Dylan constantly makes up for his height difference on both ends with intense play and good footwork and fundamentals. He creates turnovers in a half court setting and this allows his team to convert in transition and maintain an advantage over the opposition.

Sloan is a guard for North Shore who likes to play uptempo and can get hot in a hurry from deep. Damarcus has a quick release that allows him to launch shots over closing out defenders and can also function as a secondary ballhandler in a full or half court offense. His speed helps the Mustangs always keep one step ahead of the competition and he can either initiate offensive sets or thrive in a set that spreads the floor and gives him an opportunity to display his scoring.

Evan is one of the more efficient guards in terms of pace setting and floor spacing out of the Houston area. Bush uses him as a combo guard who can operate as a dual threat, either a playmaker or a scorer. His speed and quickness off the dribble open up opportunities for his teammates to score the rock as he has the court awareness to find them when they have good, open looks. He possesses great wherewithal on offense to recognize mismatches and never hesitates to take advantage of a one-on-one scenario.

[player_tooltip player_id='2556889' first='Axel' last='Anderson'] has been one of the best shooters I have witnessed this summer and continues to make an impact playing on Houston Apex 17u. Anderson combines good off-ball movement with great shooting mechanics, and this allows him to find himself clean looks at the basket from the perimeter. Coming out of Lake Creek HS in Montgomery, Axel thrives in offenses that play fast paced and allow spacing of the floor for shooters.
