UIL Regional Semi-Finals: Standouts Under Playoff Pressure

With a Regional Finals berth on the line, the UIL Regional Semi-Finals delivered heartbreaking playoff basketball. The pace tightened, possessions carried extra weight, and execution became the difference between advancing and going home. Several prospects elevated their level of play, impacting the game through energy, timely scoring, and defensive presence. Here we take a look at a few standouts that rose to the occasion in a round that separated contenders from pretenders.    Clark shows potential as a high-point rebounder with his ability to tip offensive boards to keep them alive or outleap box-outs to snag the ball at its peak. Reliable on the glass, always there to clean up a miss or create second-chance opportunities, displaying the timing and bounce to impact possessions consistently.     Dakari Bolton played with impeccable touch around the rim, finishing layups with finesse and pure skill. Bolton manipulated the ball well in the air, showing terrific control and touch on finger rolls. As he continuously attacked with his right hand, he drew attention and forced bigs to step up before beating them with a soft-touch floater. He was relentless getting paint touches and all the way to the rack, often leaning his weight into defenders or initiating contact with his shoulder before finishing strong.     Moore had a physical presence that went unmatched. Set the tone with his command of the post, battling for deep position and establishing himself down low on a play-to-play basis. Moore flashed block-to-block ball-side, making him a constant threat to seal and score. As the defensive anchor, Moore power-swatted shots, sending the ball flying. Not only did he eliminate easy looks inside, but Moore often ended possessions on the first shot attempt with his rebounding skills.     Devin Sowells controlled the tempo all game, upping the speed and forcing opponents to play into his hands. He got the ball up the court in a hurry with tremendous speed, whether off the dribble or the pass. Sowells showcased impressive court vision, consistently throwing advance passes in transition and threading the needle with sharp, no-look left-handed dimes. His ability to read the defense and immediately locate the open man was next-level stuff.     Cantu got his team on the board early with two quick-trigger three-pointers, using a fast flick of the wrist to get shots off over defenders trying to run him off the line. Cantu showed excellent touch and arc on his jumpers, playing with a fearless approach from deep, wasting no time exploiting defenders who weren't ready for his snappy step-back.     Timely cutter, always diving or sprinting the midline as a passing option while showing great hands and fluid mobility. Louis Kathios scored through contact in transition, using his length to finish over defenders and his strength to blow through their chest on the way up.
