The Big Interview: Lewis County ’27 Dakota Hull

Wednesday, I talked with star Lewis County wing <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2746989' first='Dakota' last='Hull']</strong>.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>He scored 15 points with 14 rebounds and 5 assists in the program-elevating win.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>PrepHoopsTN: </strong>How did it feel in the locker room after the win?<br><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2746989' first='Dakota' last='Hull']:</strong> It was amazing. It was electric really. It was a really exciting environment to be in. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>PrepHoopsTN: </strong>Did you see this year as a big year for you and your team? Was it any different mentally leading up to it?<br><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2746989' first='Dakota' last='Hull']:</strong> Yes sir. Before the season we had goals that we set. And we knew that we could do it. This year was a lot different. Us being juniors. We have all started since freshmen year. Us being juniors we knew it was going to be a lot better year coming into this year. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>PrepHoopsTN: </strong>Do you play other sports?<br><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2746989' first='Dakota' last='Hull']:</strong> Yes sir. I play baseball. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>PrepHoopsTN: </strong>You are not built like most young hoopers. You are more powerful and sturdy. Do you train differently? In-season it can be hard to keep on the "good weight." Do you have that problem?<br><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2746989' first='Dakota' last='Hull']:</strong> I train all off-season. I am in the weight room most of the time. I also trained with the football team because I used to play football. That definitely helped. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>PrepHoopsTN: </strong>Do you see your strength/size as a good thing for basketball? Or, how does that work?<br><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2746989' first='Dakota' last='Hull']:</strong> I think it helps me a lot. Especially being able to stay athletic. I can move people with that body type.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>PrepHoopsTN: </strong>Do you have any relatives that played HS/college sports?<br><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2746989' first='Dakota' last='Hull']:</strong> No sir. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>PrepHoopsTN: </strong>What are you trying to accomplish as a hooper?<br><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2746989' first='Dakota' last='Hull']:</strong> One of my goals is to play college basketball, for sure. I want to play at the next level. This year and next year our team goal is to go to State. To play in Murfreesboro. That is a goal for us.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>PrepHoopsTN: </strong>Is it fun to see the joy your team brings the community and your school?<br><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2746989' first='Dakota' last='Hull']:</strong> Yes sir. It is definitely fun. In year's prior we have had really rough seasons. This has been one of the better ones in a long time. It will be the first time our boys program ever played in a sub-state game. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>PrepHoopsTN:</strong> It is so big to see this happen for a program. There are teams and towns that expect to get this far, but for you guys this is setting a new standard of 'This is what we expect (each year).'<br><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2746989' first='Dakota' last='Hull']:</strong> That is what coach talked about. We are setting a new standard for our program and what we can accomplish.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>PrepHoopsTN: </strong>Yeah. That is so big. You never know how much that impact will be.
