Judson Rallies Past Vandegrift to get a tough win

When you reach the third round of the UIL playoffs, the margin between winning and going home becomes razor-thin. Nothing comes easy, and every possession carries weight. Defoore pushed the tempo while senior guard Trey Block added scoring with confident mid-range jumpers. The Vipers' defensive pressure disrupted Judson's offense for several possessions.   The Rockets eventually settled in behind Ihama, who delivered back-to-back baskets in the paint, showcasing both athleticism and physicality.   The guard battle continued throughout the quarter. Vandegrift's backcourt of Defoore and Block pushed the pace while Jr. Destin Herring provided energy off the bench. Judson countered with Crittendon, O'Neal, and sophomore Jay'maree Bowens, whose defensive intensity helped generate scoring opportunities.   A key spark came when 6'7 sophomore Vinny Marasco entered the game. His bruising presence in the paint energized the Vipers, shifting momentum and igniting the crowd. The Vipers responded by returning to their identity. Defoore continued to attack in transition while Brannan controlled the boards and altered shots around the rim. Marasco added interior presence as well.   Still, Judson stayed within striking distance thanks to Bowens, who heated up with timely jumpers in transition. Ihama continued attacking the rim and earning trips to the free-throw line.   By the end of the quarter, the Rockets had trimmed the deficit to just two. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='2556147' first='Jordan' last='Taylor'] opened the quarter with a strong drive to tie the game. Moments later, O'Neal buried a corner three that gave the Rockets their first lead since early in the game.   Then came the momentum swing.   Bowens converted an and-one layup, energizing the Rockets and pushing their lead to six.   But Vandegrift wasn't going quietly.   Defoore attacked the basket again before Marasco followed with a tough interior finish. Herring added a strong drive that sent him to the free-throw line and, more importantly, drew Bowens' fifth foul, removing one of Judson's key playmakers with under four minutes to play.   The Vipers clawed back, cutting the lead to just one.     <h3 class="wp-block-heading">Big Plays Down the Stretch</h3>   In the final minutes, Ihama continued to deliver for Judson with powerful finishes in the paint.   Block answered with a clutch defensive play, jumping a passing lane and converting a fast break layup to keep Vandegrift within striking distance.   Then came two pivotal defensive moments.   First, Ihama chased down Defoore on what looked like a sure layup and delivered a game-saving block.   Moments later, Brannan returned the favor by rejecting O'Neal on a fast break opportunity.   The final 45 seconds turned into a physical slugfest. Officials allowed both teams to battle through contact, and every possession felt like the season was on the line.   With 12 seconds remaining, Vandegrift had one final opportunity trailing by three. The Vipers ran a set play for a potential tying shot, but Judson's defense held firm.   And with that, the Rockets survived.     <h3 class="wp-block-heading">Final Thoughts</h3>   Both teams showed tremendous grit and toughness in a game that felt like it could swing either way at any moment.   Judson's resilience, erasing a halftime deficit and executing late, proved to be the difference.   Now the Rockets advance.   Their reward?   A showdown with Westlake in the next round.
