was going to get him an opportunity to play at the college level. But while the match on the court was important to the sharp-shooting 6-foot-3 guard from Summit High School, he was also looking for the right place for himself off the court as well. Branch found that complete package at George Fox and he's excited about joining the Bruins in the fall.
"George Fox honestly just seemed like the right fit for me," Branch said. "I'm a Christian, it's a Christian school, and I really like Coach (Maco) Hamilton. He runs a really good program and it's a really young team, so over the next couple years we're going to be building up and hopefully be pretty good."
Branch first caught the attention of the Bruins at their elite camp in the fall, and as Hamilton and assistant coach Brendan Jones kept in contact they also came out to watch him play. A roster spot offer was extended and as the regular season came to a close Branch decided to commit. He went more into detail about the atmosphere and locale of George Fox and how he was attracted to it.
"I really like the campus - it's awesome," Branch said. "Newberg is kind of like a cute little town in Oregon. And it kind of feels like the school is almost kind of built in the center of the town, you know, like the town kind of runs around the school type of thing."
Of course, how things matched up for Branch with the basketball program and style of play certainly played a role in his decision. "Maco likes to play really fast, and I think that fits my game great," Branch said. "I love to get out and transition and run and play a really fast-paced game. They shoot a lot of transition threes - that's kind of what I do is shoot, so they'll probably use me for that."
Branch helped Summit reach the 5A state tournament this season where they finished in third place after a win over Centennial, and game in which Branch posted 13 points and 4 assists. Our congratulations go out to Branch and his family on his commitment.
