This group is loaded with intriguing storylines, and with eight teams punching their tickets to state, there's plenty to watch unfold. Dexter/Cedar Vale, Douglass, Oxford, and Uniontown can all make a legitimate case for a sub-state title, but in the end, Oxford is my pick. They bring size and strength on the wing and at the forward spots, which fits the rugged, physical style of playoff basketball you often see at the smaller-school level. [player_tooltip player_id='2328079' first='Kellen' last='Green'] sets the tone as the team's leading scorer, flirting with a double-double on a nightly basis, while Logan Gaither adds consistent production as both a scorer and rebounder. With other starters contributing in key ways, Oxford has depth and the ability to wear teams down over four quarters.   On the bottom side of the bracket, I believe St. Mary's Colgan will emerge. The Panthers have a strong roster and have been tested by a notable schedule that should serve them well in the postseason. Brady Bettega, Jayden Brown, and Brady Crossland lead the way. Bettega and Crossland bring dynamic offensive skill sets, capable of scoring at multiple levels, while Brown's size creates matchup problems and allows him to impact the game both inside and out. All three have put together highly successful seasons, showing a level of consistency and cohesion that few others can match. Each one will be a tough out this postseason.   Sacred Heart appears poised to control the top half of the bracket, backed by a deep and talented roster that includes Will Tuttle, Noah Hines, Luke Koland, and Maddox Wells. Tuttle sets the tone with his size and versatility, especially on the offensive end. He has the ability to stretch the floor with his perimeter shooting while also finishing through contact at the rim with strength and power, making him a matchup problem for just about anyone they face.   Moundridge brings valuable postseason experience after the success they've had over the past few years, along with three standout players in Heath Churchill, Easton Shahan, and Kaizer Kanitz. Their balance and familiarity with big moments make them a serious contender.   In the end, though, I believe Berean Academy will edge out Moundridge in what should be a back-and-forth battle. Nolan Sweazy has led Berean to just two losses this season — both coming against elite teams in the 2A race — and that consistency speaks volumes. His leadership and production give Berean the edge when it matters most. Because of that, seeds and records don't necessarily tell the full story. Some teams were tested night in and night out, while others took different paths, which should make for some intriguing matchups.   At the top of the bracket, I see the winner coming from Valley Falls or St. Marys. Both teams feature multiple impact players, but I give the edge to St. Marys. They have one of the top players in 2A in [player_tooltip player_id='2611081' first='Ben' last='DeVader'] leading the way. His perimeter scoring and ever-improving shooting ability make them incredibly tough to defend. He demands attention the moment he crosses half court, stretching the floor and creating opportunities for his teammates. On top of that, he has a knack for knocking down big shots in key moments — something every strong postseason team needs. Jace Hurla is another guard to keep an eye on, providing a reliable secondary scoring option and helping take pressure off DeVader.   On the bottom half of the bracket, I believe Rossville is the team to beat. They're simply too talented and too deep across the board, and they appear to be playing their best basketball at the right time. [player_tooltip player_id='1785100' first='Jack' last='Donovan'], Jakoby McDonnell, and [player_tooltip player_id='2403191' first='Cameron' last='Miller'] have all had strong seasons, bringing both production and experience to the Bulldogs. McDonnell, in particular, has put together a breakout campaign as both a scorer and playmaker in big games.   Other names to watch throughout the bracket include Collin Kearney, [player_tooltip player_id='2384339' first='Damian' last='Cervantez'], Chance Jenkins, Anthony Wilson, and Jayce Campbell — several players capable of swinging a game with a big performance.   <h3 class="wp-block-heading">Smith Center Sub-State Bracket & Matchups</h3>   Smith Center Sub-State 1   (1) Sterling (22-0) vs. (16) Hoxie (3-19)   (8) Rawlins County (12-9) vs. (9) Sublette (12-11)   (4) Ell-Saline (16-5) vs. (13) Oakley (9-14)   (5) Trego Community (16-6) vs. (12) Wichita County (10-12)   Smith Center Sub-State 2   (2) Stanton County (18-5) vs. (15) Trinity Catholic (7-14)   (7) Medicine Lodge (13-8) vs. (10) Syracuse (11-12)   (3) Thomas More Prep-Marian (17-5) vs. (14) Smith Center (9-14)   (6) Plainville (16-7) vs. (11) Ellinwood (11-12)   <h3 class="wp-block-heading">Smith Center Sub-State Predictions & Champions</h3>   Sterling finally makes its appearance in the Smith Center top bracket, and they're hands down the most dominant team mentioned in this entire article. They should be everyone's favorite to cut down the nets, and I expect them to move on in relatively convincing fashion. The Black Bears have rolled through nearly every opponent on their schedule, and there's little reason to think that changes in sub-state.   [player_tooltip player_id='2403145' first='Boston' last='Ekart'], Wyatt Newberry, Zane Farney, and Blake Smith form the core of this group, and each brings something different to the table. Ekart is the team's leading scorer and overall impact player, influencing the game on both ends with his length and athleticism. Newberry, Farney, and Smith complement him well, embracing their roles and taking pride in doing the little things that translate to winning. Smith, in particular, gives Sterling a reliable perimeter threat, always patient and selective in finding his spots from the outside.   The bottom half of the bracket feels much tighter, with Stanton County and Thomas More Prep-Marian standing out as the main contenders. For now, I'll give a slight edge to Stanton County, led by [player_tooltip player_id='3101182' first='David' last='Crane'] and Gerardo Robles. Both are capable of taking over a game in different ways — Crane with his physicality and skill set, and Robles as a dynamic perimeter presence who can handle the ball and score whenever the moment calls for it.   Other players to keep an eye on include Ty Schmeidler, Carson Liles, [player_tooltip player_id='2879563' first='Trey' last='Williams'], Reese Krone, Kas Kramer, and Joel Loya. At this stage of the season, every possession carries more weight — win and you advance, lose and you're done.
