Seven JV Standouts from this Past Week

Had the chance to be in the gym for three Indiana High School Basketball Games this week. With the season nearing an end with just less than a month until tournament time, Junior Varsity teams continue to put out intriguing talent that will be their program's future. Here are seven Junior Varsity players that stood out to me this week:    The sophomore floor general played with a ton of confidence in the game I got to see him. He's crafty with the ball and does a good job using a change of pace to get to his spots. When he gets in the lane he doesn't force the issue and uses fakes well to get himself as well as his teammates open looks. Really good in the pick and roll where he comes off aggressive. On balance shooter that has a quick release off the catch or off the dribble.     Much like Bates from Evansville Christian, Tyson is a smooth floor general that can get going in a hurry. Has the ability to score from all over the floor. Really good shooter off the catch. Plays under control and drives close outs with his head up ready to score or dish it to teammates. Quick first step that once he gets in the paint he's able to score in a variety of different ways. Pesky defender that's looking to turn defense to offense in a hurry:     Physical forward that does a good job carving out space on the low block. Does a good job maintaining position and has good hands. Once he gets the ball, he does a good job getting into his move quick. Really good rebounder on both ends of the floor. Really good communicator on the defensive end anchoring the paint.     Long and athletic wing that showcased his versatility on both ends of the floor. Offensively, he's a drive first wing with a quick first step with athleticism that really pops around the basket. Plays through contact well at the rim finishing tough buckets. Capable three-point shooter with a nice clean stroke. Defensively, he uses his natural abilities well being a shut down defender.     Natural point guard that didn't force the issue. Tight handle and complete control of the offense. No wasted movements. Always ready to make a move on the catch. Played with a natural physicality that allowed him to play through contact. Really nice pull-up jumper in the lane with a soft touch. Doesn't penetrate too deep and plays with eyes up looking for open teammates.     Intriguing sophomore forward out of Tecumseh after taking last year off. Hit a growth spurt and has really grown into his athleticism. Struggles with physicality at times, but his raw athleticism allows him to make plays around the basket. Long wingspan helps him be a plus rebound. Capable of playing on the perimeter, but is a heavy right handed driver. Good screen setter that can be a solid roll man or a pick and pop option.     The sophomore wing out of Boonville is an absolute sniper from three. In the two games that I saw him, I loved his shot preparation being both in a stationary position or off movement. Showed the ability to drive closeouts and be able to finish with a soft touch in the lane. Defensively, he's a work in progress guarding the ball, but plays the game with a high IQ and does a good job as a help side defender in rotations.
