MIAA Playoff Preview: More D1 Players to Watch

Five divisions of MIAA basketball action will commence this week, and over the next handful of days, I'll have previews for divisions one through three—including final four and championship predictions, sleeper teams, and stars to watch. With that being said, I've done my research and have watched as much MIAA hoops as you can as one human being (think you've watched more? The 6-foot-2 guard is their best shooter, and he's also able to effectively attack closeouts for finishes at the rim. Like almost everybody on the NHS squad, Marino also defends his behind off and doesn't take possessions off. The 6-foot guard is super quick with the rock and attacks the rim relentlessly. He can finish with contact, and he's tough as nails on both ends. The lefty has good post moves and is a serious threat on the low block as a scorer and passer. You'd think he wouldn't be in the best shape, but Bey can run the floor and leads a talented Springfield Central squad. The 5-foot-10 guard is undersized, but he's shifty with the rock and can score from all three levels because of his athleticism and shooting ability. He's also an unselfish, talented passer who has a flair for the dramatic. The 6-foot-4 forward is a matchup nightmare in the post because of his footwork and touch, but he can also use dribble moves and craft to get by larger players on the perimeter. When the double team comes, Dargon is a smart and willing passer. Despite his size—only 6-foot—he's able to get his body into bigger players and has very solid finishing touch and body control. His threat to shoot from the outside helps him get to the rim, too, and he's able to make dump down passes to the bigs if the defense collapses. The 6-foot-3 wing can score from all three levels and is extremely smart when it comes to making decisions off of two feet in the paint. He can pass, dribble, and shoot, and he has been insanely efficient this season, which is a testament to his ability to play within a functioning offense both with and without the ball. The 6-foot-2 junior can get above the rim for dunks, but he also has a good enough handle, when combined with his physical tools, to get to the front of the rim. The 6-foot senior is averaging over 20 points a game this season and is pretty electric with the ball in his hands. He has a really good handle (and a mean Allen Iverson right to left crossover), but he has the patience and feel to finish at the hoop. He can also make shots from the mid range and three and has good passing vision. The 6-foot-4 wing is an excellent shooter for his size from both the three and mid range and has a good enough one-dribble pull up to get a shot off virtually whenever he wants. The 5-foot-10 guard can get to the level of the rim and finish with both hands, and he has good quickness and speed to get to the rim despite his size. Marshall seems to be a talented football player as well, and that makes total sense to me. The lefty has games when he doesn't even need to take that many dribbles to put up 20+ points, because he moves incredibly well without the ball and has a super quick release once he has any space. The 6-foot-3 forward might be undersized for the big man position, but he has excellent strength and good conditioning, so he will fight for all 32 minutes.
