Friday night at Freeman High School had the feel of a playoff game. Two teams desperate to make a statement met in a tight, defensive battle that came down to late-game execution. Freeman wanted to snap a short losing streak. They did just enough down the stretch to secure a 47–43 win over Godwin High School. It was a rivalry matchup that lived up to the billing.

It wasn't always pretty. Both teams had to earn everything. Half-court possessions mattered. Defensive rotations were sharp. And every loose ball felt like it could swing momentum.

In his return from injury, Schrinel reminded everyone exactly what Freeman had been missing.

He finished with 17 points (7-12 FG), 6 rebounds, 3 steals, and 1 block. His impact went far beyond the box score. At 6'6”, he created matchup problems all night. Smaller defenders couldn't contest him at his release point, and bigger defenders struggled to contain him off the bounce.

Schrinel scored in a variety of ways—mid-post turnarounds, straight-line drives, transition finishes—and showed patience against help defense. Defensively, he was active in passing lanes. He recorded 3 steals and used his length to contest shots at the rim. He also managed to block 1 shot. His 7 made field goals came within the flow of the offense, not forced attempts.

There's a calm confidence to his game. He doesn't rush. He reads. He reacts. And in a tight rivalry game, he looked like the best player on the floor. If he continues trending upward, he deserves recognition. He should be part of the discussion as one of the top wings in the region. College coaches should be paying attention now rather than later.

Even in the loss, Pinn was the heartbeat of Godwin.

He put up 14 points (4-5 FG), 2 rebounds, 3 steals, and played nearly the entire game. Pinn picked his spots well and attacked gaps decisively. His ability to get downhill forced Freeman into help situations, and he showed touch finishing through contact.

Pinn knocked down a three. He lived at the line when he got into the paint. He converted 3-of-4 free throws. On the defensive end, his 3 steals were a result of anticipation. His competitiveness made him disruptive at the point of attack. He was also active in passing lanes.

More than anything, he led. He handled pressure, initiated offense, and carried a heavy workload on both ends. While the final score didn't fall in Godwin's favor, it was clear how central Pinn is to everything they do. He continues to establish himself as one of the more impactful guards in the 2027 class locally.

This one came down to execution in the final minutes. Freeman made the timely plays and leaned on their returning star to close it out. Godwin showed fight and composure, but in a four-point game, a possession here or there makes the difference.

Rivalry games are about toughness and poise. Friday night, Freeman had just enough of both.
