DCIAA Quarterfinals Standouts Part 2

After a thrilling opening slate, Part 2 of the DCIAA Quarterfinals Standouts turns the spotlight on a new set of players whose impactful efforts were instrumental in shaping the outcome of their teams' postseason runs. This segment recognizes additional guards and wings who excelled in high-pressure moments, showcasing their skill, leadership, and determination on the court. Whether through clutch scoring, defensive tenacity, or all-around playmaking, these athletes continued to raise the bar and left a memorable mark in quarterfinal competition.    Quick and shifty, Darrick has a deep bag which helps him get to spots on offense often ending in an array of creative finishes at the rim.  He can shoot it from anywhere on the floor - off the dribble or in catch-and-shoot fashion.  Although his bursts of speed present him with self-created opportunities, he forces defenses to shift, where he counters by making the appropriate read through setting up his teammates.       Walker has simply backed it up with his play all season long. Putting his team on his back on so many occasions, Newman has been on a “proving himself” type season, as the point guard has been a tremendous playmaker, makes solid reads, understands how to run an offense, and steps up as the clear scorer when it's needed. It really isn't hard to see the value that Walker brings to court.     Smooth lefty scoring guard Thomas may be the sneakiest guard in the city that D1 programs should monitor this spring.  Highly underrated, Thomas has simply proven and shown the ability to be a true scoring factor on the court. An effective and efficient guard, Thomas can be a big threat from the perimeter with his ability to knock down shots as well as make plays off the bounce.     [player_tooltip player_id='2574738' first='Joaquin' last='Frye'] continued to thrive in helping lead the charge, playing with poise and craftiness in his game. Frye makes good reads, reads and sees the floor well, makes high IQ plays, and really controls the offense on the court. Frye showcases the ability to break down defenders and use his shooting range to his advantage. Scoring 11 points in the victory over Ron Brown.     Certain players can control the game by simply controlling the tempo of the game. The young sophomore showed himself to be a major catalyst for Bard in the Dunbar game. He played with poise and pace. Scored out of ball screens, got to his sweet spots on the floor, and utilized his size for a lead guard to finish in the paint.  Scored 15 points in the near upset of Dunbar losing the game 59-61.     Phifer is a quick little guard who consistently sets the tone with his on-ball pressure and defensive intensity. He competes at a high level, disrupts opposing guards, and makes winning plays on that end. Offensively, he plays with assertiveness and purpose, attacking gaps and staying aggressive as a scorer and playmaker. Scored 18 points in the loss to Dunbar. The young man went down shooting.
