<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>SANTA FE</strong> – The Clovis Wildcats demonstrated Saturday afternoon what grinding out a road win looks like.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>With both teams struggling to make shots on offense and at the free throw line, Clovis dug deep in the second half, making clutch plays down the stretch and limiting Santa Fe to just 11 points over the final 16 minutes, turning a four-point halftime deficit into an encouraging five-point win, 41-36, at Toby Roybal&nbsp; Gymnasium.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Clovis has won five of its last six games following a 3-5 start to the 2025-26 season.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>After trailing 24-20 at halftime, Clovis took a 29-26 lead with 2:30 left in the third quarter on a free throw and layup on successive possessions. The Wildcats held the Demons to just two points in the opening 5:49 of the third quarter.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Santa Fe snapped its offensive drought with a conventional three-point play by <strong>Alex Vassel</strong> which tied the score at 29-29. Clovis took the lead for good at 32-29 just before the end of the third quarter.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Clovis led, 34-31, entering the final frame.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The game continued to be a tight, defensive dominated contest for most of the fourth quarter. Junior <strong>Kyden Everett</strong> hit a jumper from the wing to give the Wildcats a 36-33 lead.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>After a Santa Fe basket, Clovis senior <strong>Joseph Cavazos</strong> made arguably the play of the game with less than 40 second left in the fourth quarter and the outcome in the balance. Cavazos took an inbounds pass at midcourt and drove straight to the hoop, converting a layup while being fouled.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>His basket gave Clovis a 38-35 lead with 38.4 seconds left.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Trailing by three points, Santa Fe clanged a shot from 3-point range off the rim on its next possession. Clovis was fouled on the rebound and hit one free throw to make 39-35. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Then another key play happened. Everett went to the free throw line and missed both free throws. However, when his second attempt missed, the Santa Fe players seemed to freeze for a moment.
