Winning the Class A State Tournament will almost certainly require defeating Pickett County's Bobcats and that is nearly impossible in 2026. At 22-2, PCHS established they are the toughest, deepest Class A team in the land. Monday January 25th Pickett County Head Coach Lee Amonett shared his time with PrepHoopsTN.

PrepHoopsTN: How big was the win over Jackson County, a State Tournament team from a year ago?
HC Lee Amonett: Big win for a young team. They are returning six seniors and have high expectations. We had that game circled on our calendar.

PrepHoopsTN: What was your plan to handle [player_tooltip player_id='2364080' first='Will' last='McCrary'] who is an anomaly in Class A basketball.
HC Lee Amonett: We are probably a nightmare matchup for them, to be honest. We prepared for him because he is a true "5". I thought we were ...we did a really good job on him for three quarters. I think he got to the line 10 times in the game. And scored half of his points in the fourth quarter. He had six points at the half. Our guys walled them up.

PrepHoopsTN: How is [player_tooltip player_id='2195034' first='Cole' last='J. Amonett'] playing this month?
HC Lee Amonett: Cole has been really good. It has been a big transition to move to point guard. He has obviously been the focal point of most of the defenses that we have faced. i think he has valued the value of assists and assists. He has a really solid year.

PrepHoopsTN: Any players playing better than you expected in the last 2-3 weeks?
HC Lee Amonett: [player_tooltip player_id='2441906' first='Nathaniel' last='Cobb'] has been fantastic. He is putting up near triple-double numbers. He had 17p, 9a, 7r against Jackson County. His game has really stepped up this year. He is drawing a tough defensive assignment for us, as well. The [forwards] are handling the ball and are out at the forefront of what we doing.

PrepHoopsTN: What is [player_tooltip player_id='2866490' first='Brody' last='Pryor'] up to? His stats are impressive.
HC Lee Amonett: Brody has great hands and feet. He is a smart kid. He is exceptional finishing through contact around the basket. 6'5".

PrepHoopsTN: You guys have a big team for Class A.
HC Lee Amonett: We start.. Abram is 6'1". Cole Amonett is 6'2". Nate is 6'5". Brody [Pryor] is 6'5". Kelvin [Cobb] is 6'6". Nathaniel plays wing. Brody can play with back to the basket. He is probably a stretch-4. Abram is 2.

PrepHoopsTN: I saw Abram at the Prep Hoops Expo in the fall. He was very skilled. I wonder if he could play point guard at some point.
HC Lee Amonett: He might. His mind is that of a wing.
