Jr. 3SSB South Regionals: Point Guards on the Rise

The Jr. 3SSB South Regional brought high-level grassroots basketball to the Round Rock Sports Center in [player_tooltip player_id='2854586' first='Austin' last=''], Texas, with some of the region's top young prospects competing in a fast-paced, highly competitive setting. Across multiple age groups, players were tested by athleticism, physicality, and constant game action, the type of setting that quickly separates potential from production. From emerging guards showing command and confidence to versatile wings and bigs impacting both ends, several prospects used the South Regional stage to boost their stock early into the circuit season.    Floor general, Jahrrend Arnold, played with a high basketball IQ, never forcing the action and always taking what the defense gave him. Arnold showed comfort and precision delivering entry passes to both the high and low post, connecting the offense through smart decision-making and steady leadership. He controlled the flow of the game with poise, scored efficiently within the offense, and relied on a deadly accurate floater. His low, controlled dribble penetration allowed him to slide through traffic, get into the teeth of the defense, and force collapses.         Joel Jones ran the game the way a true point guard should, constantly prioritizing finding the open man and moving the ball with purpose. Jones made high-level reads in real time, showing every pass in the book, from elite bounce-entry feeds to advanced, surgical dimes that carved up the defense. An incredibly fast processor, he saw windows instantly and hit them without hesitation. His handle was nasty, giving him access to any spot on the floor while making him unguardable one-on-one. When defenders helped off, he punished them by knocking down deep three-pointers, drilling three in a single half. Off the ball, he sprinted into open space and showed polished footwork stepping into shots. In pick-and-roll action, he consistently ate defenders alive, pulling up cleanly when they went under or exploiting switches. A true engine who elevated everyone around him.     True floor general who thrived as a quick decision-maker with the ball. Dunn consistently dissected defenses with drop-offs, wraparounds, and timely kick-out passes, keeping the ball moving and everyone involved. Dunn's handle and advanced court vision allowed him to see plays developing a step ahead, setting teammates up for clean, easy looks. He proved to be a high-level facilitator, delivering accurate passes from tough angles and making sharp reads off the live dribble.     A dynamic scoring presence defined by patience, instincts, and elite handle. Johnson always had a counter ready, keeping the ball on a string as he slipped through traffic or past defenders with sneaky speed and shiftiness. He was exceptional at attacking a defender's hip, forcing them to turn before cutting off any chance of recovery. His footwork and handle worked in perfect sync, making his first step lethal and his pull-ups off hesitation dribbles tough to anticipate. Johnson made scoring look easy while still finding ways to make his teammates better. He played with a strong feel for the game, keeping his head up to create opportunities for teammates through smart reads and unselfish play. Hamza never forced the game, allowing it to come to him and making timely, winning plays as they presented themselves.     Aggressive off the catch with a smooth, decisive first step that consistently got him downhill and into the paint. King showed a knack for creating contact, either drawing fouls or getting quality shot attempts at the rim. His ability to apply constant rim pressure highlighted his upside as a crafty finisher in traffic.
