Purcell was home this week to some great action at the Heart of Oklahoma Tournament. The games were moved around to avoid the incoming weather, crowning a champion on Friday afternoon. We saw some outstanding individual performances each day, with Bethany bringing home the title.

The Bronchos were the most consistent team throughout the tournament, using a balanced scoring attack to go undefeated. The OKC Knights showed flashes of being dominant, beating Anadarko in the first round and building a 10-point lead over Bethany heading into the fourth quarter of their semifinal matchup. Dickson advanced to the championship game with two strong offensive performances before running into an impressive effort defensively by Bethany.

All-Tournament Team

[player_tooltip player_id='2408658' first='Breck' last='Brady'] | Forward | Bethany

Breck was a force inside the paint at times in the tournament. At 6'6”, he was able to exert his will on both ends of the floor. The sophomore rebounded well over the three-game stretch, while also converting in the paint at a high rate. In the semifinal victory over the OKC Knights, he led all scorers with 20 points, to go along with 5 rebounds. Brady gave the Bronchos a one-point lead after being fouled with just 5.7 seconds left. He made both free throws and sealed the win for his squad.

Rhett Brobston | Guard | Bethany

Brobston scored 8 and 11 points respectively in back-to-back wins to finish out the tournament. The sophomore scored 5 points during Bethany's fourth quarter rally against the Knights. Brobston continues to shoot the ball well, making two 3-pointers on Thursday, before knocking down another one on Friday in the title game.

[player_tooltip player_id='2140771' first='Malachi' last='Chatman'] | Guard | Bethany

Chatman was the best player on the floor in the championship game against Dickson. After a slow start, Chatman settled things with his jump shot. First, hitting two 3-pointers before reading the defense and attacking a hard close out with a one dribble pull up jumper from the wing. The junior led all scorers in the final game with 18 points. He also continues to improve on the defensive end. If Malachi can use his strong frame, combined with good positioning and footwork, he can throw off opposing guards on the perimeter.

[player_tooltip player_id='2831778' first='Matthew' last='Toyekoyah'] | Forward | Anadarko

While things didn't go as planned for the Warriors, Toyekoyah continued to show some bright spots. Despite a 3-point first round loss to the OKC Knights, the team bounced back in large part because of his play. The Warriors defeated Elgin by 11 in the consolation bracket on Thursday. The junior led his team in rebounds and continued to show why he can be a consistent matchup problem for the opposition. Toyekoyah hit a face up jump shot early before finishing around the defense on multiple occasions, putting the defense in limbo. His ability to get by bigger defenders, while shooting over smaller ones was evident again, as it has been for much of the season so far.

Kobe Booker | Guard | Dickson

Booker was arguably the best pure shooter in the tournament. The junior is always shot ready, working to open areas and creating good passing lanes for teammates. Booker hit a shot from beyond the arc in each of the three games for the Comets. He continues to add to his all-around game, showcasing his athleticism running the floor and finishing in transition against Bethany. He led his team in scoring, with 13 points in the title game.

Andrew Dudleson | Guard | OKC Knights

Dudleson consistently stuffed the stat sheet for his squad. His impact was felt on both ends of the floor. Defensively, he pressures the ball with outstanding effort. His presence could be felt through his blocked shots and creating steals for both himself and teammates. Offensively, he produced acrobatic finishes at the rim while also running a lot of the offense. Dudleson's ability to finish with both hands was evident over all three games.

Drew Blair | Forward | Purcell

Blair has a lot of versatility in his game. After a tough loss against Byng, that saw Canaan Colburn and Maddox Ward lead the way for the Tigers, Blair rebounded well. Against Enid, he scored 10 points and helped his team coast to a 66-46 win. In an impressive win over the OKC Knights, the 6'4” junior showed the ability to shoot off the dribble as well as off the catch. His high release is rarely blocked, giving him confidence when shooting the ball from long range. Defensively, he shows outstanding positioning and is seemingly second of the floor often, timing his blocked shots well without being too aggressive against pump fakes.
